    I think you put too much trust in what GM tells you. There is no such thing as "better quality" tires that GM keeps over what Good Year factory produces and never trust the dealership to do anything right. The SRA's are some of the cheapest tires out there for a reason but GY does make some excellent tires but like most things in life they will cost you more.

    For drinkable water just carry some iodine tablets or a small water filtration unit, both take up little to no room. As far as your battery goes my work trucks have always had a dual battery setup because we have winches on both the front and rear of our company trucks due to the large amounts of time myself and the other guys/gals I work with are offroad plus we have a radio communications system installed in some trucks. I got a 2018 silvy to replace my 2015 F150 back in the summer and it only has one battery this go around and I have been fine. I only run the winches with the truck running and these newer radio systems do not use up near the electricity they used to but if I forget to turn my radio system off at night I will have a near dead or dead battery the next day.

    My 14 has tons of pops, cracks, rattles, etc that have been there within a year of when I bought my 14. Some I have remedied on my own, some the dealer fixed under warranty, others I just live with. My 18 work truck that I have had for 6 months now has now creeking and popping sounds yet, again I will never buy a first year model of anything again. It didn't help that my 14 is just not a new year model but that is was made in the first month of production!

    My 14 does the same thing. I have weird beeps, a strange static noise that come out of my speakers when I open the door, and a backup camera that likes to stay on when the truck is in Drive. These three things are intermittent but have been going on for the last 4 years. The joys of buying an early build of a brand new design truck! I have an 18 base model as my take home company truck and it has none of these issues.

    Either your truck radio doesn't offer HD or you don't have it turned on. My suggestion would be to get your owners manual out and read up on it.

    Or you could go with a 285/65 18" if you want. I don't think I have ever seen a 265/70 mainly because most go for looks over function and that size will be tall and skinny looking. The 285/65 will give you the same height (32.6") but a wider foot print and will look much better on the truck and will still fit on your stock rims.

    I just got a 2018 silvy work truck that has the regular shocks while my 14 personal truck has the factory rancho's on it. I will say that I enjoy the highway and around town ride much better on the 18 with the softer shocks. The downside is that I do a lot of off road riding for my job and those soft shocks are terrible for that. I don't do much off roading in my personal truck so I probably would be better off with the the non-rancho shocks.

    I wish I could just turn off the backup camera. Mine will sometimes not even turn off even after the truck is in Drive and going down the road. Have to pull over, turn off the truck and restart it for it to turn off. I do not depend on the cameras, prefer to use my mirrors anyway.

    That's great but this thread is about regular radio reception, not satellite reception. I have never been a big fan of the sound of satellite radio, to compressed and not near the sound quality of CD IMO.

    I've owned an 82, 92, 02, and now my 14 silverado and out of the 4 my 2002 was the best one out of the group. Next was my 92 which was about as trouble free as my 2002. It is a close one right now between my 82 and 14 model. The 14 feels like a car when driving down the interstate and has more power than my last three combined but I feel the overall build quality is not even close to my 2002 and 1992 models. I keep my trucks for 10 to 12 years so I got 8 or so to go on my current when so hopefully it will atleast beat out my 82 model which was nothing but trouble.

    I don't either, what is this guy complaining about?!?! The drink bottle in my Jeep GC shake as much as that and it is one smooth riding vehicle. That is the downside to forums like this, people read something and then go looking for it in their own vehicle and some how find what was non-existent to them.

    Don't know about the ecoboosts but my last two work truck have been F150's, got rid of my 12 model last year with 150k miles and it was doing fine. That one and my current one both had the 5.0 V8 though. I love my silverado's (owned 4 in a row the last 25 years) but my 2012 and current F150 work trucks have never been back to the dealer but my 14 has been back about a dozen times over mainly recalls but for a few other things (including the shake). I still would probably buy another chevy when it is time to move on which is about every 10 years for me but it would not bother me to look at a Ford either.

    This being my third Z71 over the years I was dissapointed in the skid protection offered by GM for their "off road" truck but I knew it when I bought the truck and I knew I would eventually have to do something about it. The skid plate kit is adequate but as mentioned above the gas tank could use something if your going to be in an area with large sharp rocks. The whole kit (which is what I bought) came with the front, middle, and transfer case skid plate. The Z71's already come with the transfer case plate so I sold it on fleabay. The kit also comes with all the bolts you will need which are pricey on their own, about $8 a piece. I also own a base model Jeep GC Laredo with the off road package and it came with thick steel plates that run the whole length of the vehicle. How come Fiat can come closer to making a grocery getter a more off road capable vehicle than GM can with their trucks?

    They will give you better protection but not great, the replacement skid plates are thin aluminum. They are about half the thickness of the ones that came stock on my 2002 Z71 but they are better than nothing. On a side note, if you considering your truck an investment then I have bad news for you, it is a terrible investment because it will always be worth less than you paid for it.
