  1. If you spend too much time on this forum reading the horror stories you probably wouldn't even think about buying a GM truck and no one gets paid for their opinions. Consumer Reports is good for the shanty, if you don't mind a few paper cuts.....
  2. 2020 Silverado LT. Sport Trial boat trailer with LED lighting. I have no issues with messages in the DIC. Not many lights on the trailer. One 3/4" amber clearance light on each side, one combination taillight each side, and one 3 light center clearance in the rear crossbar. No reverse lights. Have you had a chance to check the grounds on the trailer taillights ? Sometimes it's a pain the get good grounds on aluminum trailers. Thanks for the reminder about the trailer light test feature. I completely forgot about it and have never tried it. I wonder if after the test, the feature has to be manually turned off. If left on it would probably cause issues. Just throwing that out there since I have never used the test.
  3. If you are are satisfied with the performance of a stock truck think about getting a new one. If you like to tinker and mod keep the older one. GM is making it more and more difficult and expense to mod each generation of truck. One of the major players in the tuning market gave up after trying to tune a 2021 Tahoe. The trucks won't be far behind. https://www.gm-trucks.com/hennessey-performance-cant-tune-the-2021-chevy-tahoe-and-the-reason-why-will-infuriate-you/
  4. My 2018 Silverado LT had 3.42 gears, a six speed trans, and the same size tire as my 2020 Silverado LT with 3.23 gears and 8 speed trans. I run 75 on the highway. The tires on the 2018 were Bridgestone Duelers and the 2020 has Genral Grabber AT's. Both 255 17's. Life time mileage on the 2018 was 22.5 at 38,000 miles before the electrical gremlins forced me out of it. At close to 8,000 miles lifetime on the 2020 is 20.1. My opinion is that the engine in the 2020 is spinning just a tad under optimal RPM's at 75 with the 3.23's. Best 400 mile MPG average so far on the 2020 was 24.1 at 79 MPH. The stock General AT tires on the 2020 vs the Stock street tread on 2018 Bridgestone's probably factor into things too. There is no comparison about how much smoother the 2018 ran than the 2020 does from 500 to 1,500 RPM's. The 2018 would idle at 500 RPM so smoothly and quietly it was amazing. I could stop to talk on the phone , put it in park, and when I got out of the truck 45 minutes later the tach and door chime would be the only indication the truck was still running. If the 2020 gets down to 500 RPM's the antenna looks like it's going to vibrate off. If GM would have found the issue in a reasonable amount of time with my 2018 at 243 miles when it first happened, at 3,800 miles the second time it happened, or at 38,000 miles when it happened again I would still have it. Three strikes and it was out.
  5. Same Chinese and Mexican parts too, but lower labor costs south of the border. Yes, there are still humans on the assembly lines. Even the "factory GM" tubular running boards on my truck are made in China. Outsourcing for lower labor cost has lowered the quality of everything, while doing little to reduce price.
  6. It's the one option I'm glad my truck doesn't have. I can't stand it ! When we take my wife's Highlander on trips I turn the cruise off if we get in traffic on the highway. Old school guy with old school ways.
  7. My 2020 LT was a dealer courtesy vehicle with 2,200 miles on it when I bought it. Probably 4 or 5 different folks "drove" it during it's life in their fleet and did god knows what to it. Any early gremlins had to be addressed to keep it in the fleet and running. This also means it got an oil change and another PDI at 2,200 miles, plus PDI when it got to my dealer. It was built in Mexico by some of the lowest paid workers GM employs. About to roll 8,000 miles with no hitches other than the Infotainment software update. My 2018 built in Ft Wayne Indiana was towed to the dealer twice by the time it had 3,200 miles on it. Buy American. Central American !! Hecho en Mexico !
  8. My 2018 LT rode better, had better seating, and would idle so smoothly at 500 RPM's it was amazing. It also handled a little better. But, by 3,800 miles had been out of service for 2 different 2 week stretches for a no start condition. The third time with no start and towing to the dealership was it's farewell. At 7,700 miles the 2020 hasn't been towed yet and has not failed to start so I'm ahead there. I'm tweaking the seat position and getting more comfortable and the ride may have something to do with the factory General all season tires vs. the Bridgestone street tires that were on the 2018. The 2020 feels longer and wider. With the current fuel management system I don't know if the 2020 will ever idle like the 2018 did. It seems to be fighting the auto shut off even when I have that turned off. My left leg instinctively pushes the parking brake even while my finger is on the button for the electric one, so I am still adjusting to that. 45 years of stomping the pedal is a hard habit to break. If I hadn't totally lost confidence in the 2018 after the 3rd breakdown for the same issue, I would still have it.
  9. 4 Eggo waffles will cook in 3 minutes and a Hot Pocket in 15. Use the timer in the DIC and flip once for complete cooking. Down here the dash gets so hot that's about the only use for the bins on top of the dash. We nicknamed the box Nissan used to put in the top center of their dash the George Foreman Grill. Anything you put in it got cooked. Credit cards melted to the point of destruction. Anything I've put in there causes too much glare off of the windshield so mine stays empty.
  10. Mine stayed on for about 15 minutes when I shut off the truck and opened the door for a couple of days. On the third day the update came through and I have not had the issue for a couple of weeks now. Fingers crossed that this was the fix. Hopefully the update makes its way to you soon !
  11. Everything I read said they do. Best bet would be to give them a call and verify.
  12. Not yet, but here's a link to the ones I am considering: https://www.adcmobile.com/product/multi-camera-interface-for-gm-vehicles-w-8-screen/
  13. 1. I'm an old fart and I don't get the texting thing. Your phone will connect seamlessly and actual conversation is a much better form of communication. 2. Is it really that difficult to turn a knob ? Are your fingers texting instead ? 3. For about $550.00 there is an aftermarket camera kit that will provide side view with turn signals and a forward viewing camera at low speeds. I will agree with you that the mirror options in the new trucks are lacking. The 2015-2018 had much better options. In the LT trim why have a factory convex spot on only the driver's side mirror ? Would it really have broken the bank to put one in the passenger mirror ?
  14. Mine updated November 3rd. When I gave it the okay it notified me that the truck would be inoperable for the duration of the update. No start, no shift, no nothing, and even went so far as to tell me to take my key fob with me as it could get locked in. The day before the update I had problems with the stereo staying on for 10-15 minutes after I got out of the truck. That issue is gone after the update and my phone links faster. Does the update come through On Star ?
  15. My 2020 Silverado LT came stock with 255/70 R17 General All Season tires. I really wouldn't want anything much larger in diameter with the 3.23 rear.
  16. https://www.sportwing.com/FE-SIL19-CC-Chevrolet-Silverado-1500-Crew-Cab-Painted-Body-Side-Molding They took about 5 days to ship and I like the way they changed the look of the truck.
  17. Finally installed the bodyside moldings today.
  18. Great color choice on both of your trucks ! That K10 was a beast ! Not sure our new trucks will last 39 years, but I'll enjoy mine while it's here ! That's some beautiful country with the exception of that white stuff on the ground. That much snow down here would shut us down for weeks, and body shops would be full for years !
  19. Well after 2 storms I finally got the sides of the truck cleaned up enough to put the moldings on. It should have come this way from the factory.
  20. No matter how old we are (I'm 61) sometimes in the excitement of buying a new truck we fail to look it over closely before we sign the dotted line. My $47,000 2020 Silverado was made in Mexico (So much for buying American !). Fitment is not perfect, but I understand that being mass produced it's as close as it will be. You rolled the dice buying a first year production vehicle. Welcome to the real world of Beta Testers. Computer simulators also go so far and no proving ground provide real world situations perfectly. One of the papers you are forced to sign is an arbitration agreement. Refuse to sign and it's game over. The purchase will not take place. Other fine print in some states is that the exact same reason for breakdown must be documented 3 or more times to qualify for lemon laws. My 2018 was towed 3 times for the exact same no start condition but threw different codes all three times and was written up three different ways. It turned out to be the ECM which was throwing random codes as it died a slow death. The truck was out of service for 3.5 weeks total. I took the hit and traded it for my 2020 while the 2018 was down for the third time. Third strike I was out of it. My opinion is that the designers are way ahead of the dealers ability to service these electronic time bombs. The diagnostic equipment costs too much and/or is not available, dealerships can't afford to train enough technicians once the equipment is purchased, and GM is still pissed that they lost the ability to charge us all a monthly computer licensing fee in court and is holding out on help for dealerships. Think about the fact that your dealer has to contact GM to get a code to program the ECM if you add factory fog lights to your truck. How ridiculous is that ? So why did I buy another GM product ? The others aren't much better and at least this way I get something back from the billions we spent keeping GM alive with the government bailout. My third issue with the 2018 also coincided with the Covid shutdowns and lack of inventory across the brands and diagnosis and surgery for Prostate Cancer. I had bigger issues than worrying about whether the 2018 was going to be fixed or not. I am hoping the 2020 gets me through radiation treatments that last through early January. In the meantime I am watching out for a mid 80's to 90's C1500 or Ford Bronco. If I start having issues with the 2020 Silverado, it too will become someone else's problem. I'll trade car payments for gas payments and have something that can be repaired in my driveway.
  21. Memory is connected to mirrors also. No telling what tow mirrors you have are how they are wired and apparently your truck's memory doesn't either. Your best bet is to take pictures of the mirrors and contact Phil Gamboa at https://harnessdr.com/ and let him find you a solution. Your dealer won't have a clue. Don't waste your time trying. Most will tell you the mirror swap is impossible. Phil has helped many over the years. I just wish he would trade his 2016 for a new style 2019 or later and start working on mods for the newer trucks !
  22. Time to check your state's buy back laws. With the current shortage of parts your truck may be out of service for a while. In some states after 30 days they are required to do a buy back. My 2018 got towed 3 times for the exact same no start issue. First at 243 miles, next around 3,500 miles, and then at 35,000 miles. I traded it in and lost my rear end because I had no confidence in the truck anymore. The day I picked up my 2020 the service department called to tell me the ECM was was bad and replaced in the 2018 and the truck was good to go. It went home with it's new owner.
  23. But searches are for "other" people. He wants his answers NOW !!
