  1. Thanks, Don. You can never have too much storage space. This shed will also take on the role of garden shed, its primary function is lawnmower storage. Plus whatever else I can fit in there. We were designing a new house with much more garage room, but as life changes we ended up buying a spec home, which meant unfinished lot. I was forced to live with no outbuildings for over 2 years, so this project began as soon as I could make it happen. I can't wait to be able to move around inside my garage this winter!
  2. I finally am ready to contribute to this thread showing I have done more than shoot Bourbon the last 6 months. I practiced social distancing in my back yard and built a 12' x 14' shed. (maximum size allowed by the subdivision) It has to match the house, so same siding and roofing. My dad (retired) was able to help me with the 2 -man tasks since my son isn't big enough to be much assistance yet. I ran a 20 amp conductor out there in a buried conduit for power from my garage. I added LED flood lights toward the detention pond so we can ice skate in the evenings. I had the slab poured when our contractor did our driveway. Everything above the concrete cost about the same as the foundation! (Thanks to Menards 11% off) Its been fun, I'm 99% finished. Still needs a final coat of paint and some odds and ends. Next project: Finish another room in the basement for wife's office, thanks to the new normal of working from home.
  3. well, except for Google Maps. But yea, the mapping apps on your smartphone are better, cheaper, easier to update than any service through OnStar.....
  4. My old work beater was a 2004 grand am with the 3400 V6. I put flowmaster's "camaro style" muffler (mounted sideways under the trunk) with 1 inlet and an outlet on each side, sounded pretty sweet to me, haha. Now upgraded to a 2014 Chrysler 200 with the Pentastar 3.6 L V6. Completely stock, I can barely hear that its running. But it gets moving when I push on the tall skinny pedal.
  5. The Harley trucks are a custom build by an upfitter called Tuscany Motor Co. If you want to call them, you could ask if they have any extra parts for sale. https://www.tuscanymotorco.com/harleytruck
  6. Not since carbureted engines has this been accurate. Since we now have fuel injection, shutting the engine off for a few seconds saves more fuel than a restart. There's various numbers around the web, but I believe 10 seconds of off time is worth it. Here's some sources: https://afdc.energy.gov/files/u/publication/which_is_greener.pdf https://slate.com/technology/2008/05/is-it-more-efficient-to-leave-your-car-idling.html I have only driven one rental car with this feature. It was a shock at first, but after the first day I was over it. No real affect to my driving a manual transmission, but it restarted when I took my foot off the brake, so by the time I was applying the gas, I was ready to go. I haven't experienced this in an automatic truck yet. I would think this is more dependent on one's driving situation. I only have a handful of stoplights in my town. Most places I go involve very little sitting still, so I'd leave the feature on. I could see it being very beneficial or very annoying depending on different conditions.
  7. Isn't that the definition of "too bright"? I see lots of people driving around with modified headlights, so I'm guessing the cops don't pull them over. I wish they did though. If you modify your lights, please make sure they are aimed properly or have the cutoff below horizontal. Oncoming drivers do not appreciate your LED lights burning their retinas.
  8. All the Z71's all have the horizontal bars. Mine is a LT and the bars are black. Yours is LTZ so the bars have chrome on them. The regular LTZ has chrome honeycomb, WT has black honey comb. I checked my 2015 brochure.
  9. Don't forget the chrome. I agree with you, jack up the price for some extra leather and shiny chrome. The Denali doesn't perform any differently or better than my LT. But I think I know why:
  10. I highly recommend Truxedo LoPro. Meets or exceeds all my expectations. Keeps the bed 100% dry when driving in rain. Like most covers, it does allow a small amount of seepage when parked in rain, or car wash. I would buy another if I got a new truck.
  11. Probably. No other reason to be traveling that fast across the front lane in the wally world parking lot. I was shocked this was right up in front of the store, not in the back corner of the parking lot where most showing off occurs.
  12. HA! Columbus, OH.... must be Ohio state fans. Love, The rest of BigTen country
  13. The 5.3 and 6.2 trucks are identical except for the displacement. That means that the steering, handling and more importantly braking, are the SAME. So you would have no difference in safety. The only thing you get with the 6.2 to is a little more oomph under throttle. Just be aware of the transmission and gear ratio on the trucks you are looking at. With more gears in the new tranny, you should have more than ample torque to get that little trailer moving. Heck, guys are pulling 9,000 lb trailers with them already.
  14. The 5.3 would easily meet your towing demands, so this doesn't seem to be about needs. Its all about wants. Are you a "no replacement for displacement" guy? Or do you want to be early on the bandwagon for the new diesel? That's all this comes down to. I personally would not buy a diesel yet. So between your two choices, I vote for the 6.2.
  15. ditto. My center console screen serves only 2 purposes for me: To see what terrestrial radio station is on, and to see the backup camera. That camera is the only useful technology my current truck has that my 1998 did not. I've never used push button unlock door handles, don't need them. Every other bit of fancy tech is obsolete after a couple years and I want a truck to last a decade. My phone gets replaced every 2 years, I'm not relying on GM to put a tablet in my truck.
  16. I have an undercover swing case. I love it. It's pretty much full and it doesn't feel too flimsy. If you filled it with multiple heavy items like hitches, I could see a problem. But I love how it works, and it is easily removed if I want to use the whole bed.
  17. My truck VIN starts with 3. I haven't ever noticed any issue that I would attribute to built quality. Design, on the other hand, there are a few questions I have, but that is another topic.
  18. I think he should buy a 20" chrome wheel and hang that under his truck. Then, next spring he can complain about how pitted it is.
  19. maybe think about it this way: The leaf springs are as loud as they have ever been. but the rest of your new truck is so quiet that now your neighbors don't even hear you approaching until they hear the springs squeak. That's why they look startled. We never cared about the spring noise in the past because the rest of the truck noise would drown it out. You said it yourself, you are not used to this setup, so any sound is different to you. It doesn't bother me one bit.
  20. Naked all the way. Running boards scream "old man". If you can't get in your truck on your own, its too high IMO.
  21. I took advantage of the 4 free oil changes. I was unhappy when I found out they decided not to rotate the tires, even though that was supposed to be included. I called them back and was told they inspected the tires and decided it was not needed. Without talking to me. So take advantage if you want to. As long as you know going in they have a reputation for taking short cuts/ upselling/ everything else. Then you can inspect their work before you leave and decline any additional services.
  22. Yes, use 2018 when searching for parts online. Newdude explained it very well.
  23. You need to ignore the people who post their best trip with wind at their back. Averages over longer distances, with mixed city/hwy are likely to be closer to 20 +/- 2 mpg. Very similar to the 5.3.
  24. Jeeze, you got a 1 ton with a 7.4 liter and struggle to pull a 7,000 lb TT. Don't show this to the guys with new half ton trucks pulling the same size trailer. I'd second the idea to go back to OEM size highway tires. What you have on there now isn't helping you on the pavement.
  25. Nice photo session, I can tell you are a pro. I like the drone shots. You have a mavic zoom?
