  1. I have a 2017 Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3L engine and the 6 speed transmission. I've had a Black Bear tune in the engine and transmission for over 2 years, the 70 degrees C thermostat was installed in the transmission at 32,000 miles. The dealership performed the transmission fluid drain and flush and put in the new fluid at about the same time that the new thermostat was installed. At 40,000 miles, I took the truck to my mechanic and had him do the DOD delete. A BTR Stage 2 cam was installed. The heads were taken to a machine shop to be reworked (mechanic does this every time he does DOD delete because he had one that had a bent valve and he didn't realize it until after the engine was back together). I also had an intake manifold and throttle body from a 6.2L installed on my 5.3L engine. While the truck was being worked on, I emailed Black Bear to see if I could get an updated tuning file for the engine due to the changes that were being made. I received the updated file and loaded it into the ECM before the truck was started for the first time. When I got the truck back from the mechanic, it idled very rough. It seems to run well when you step hard on the gas pedal, but still idles rough. Not "big cam" rough, just rough in general. It also wants to die when maneuvering at slow speeds such as in a parking lot or when stopped at a stop light. If I attempted to perform a WOT run, the CEL would flash and then come on steady. The code indicates cylinder 7 misfire. However, this only happens when hard on the throttle. No codes when normal driving. Another issue is that the truck "jerks" just after shifting into a higher gear when the load on the engine increases or when driving starting up a hill. When the jerking started, I could simply step down on the gas pedal and force a downshift to stop the jerking. I mitigated the issue by placing the transmission in "M" and controlling the downshifts manually. We attributed it to the tune not being optimized yet, so I made a recording and sent it off to Black Bear. The new tune arrived and I loaded it into the ECM. This made the truck run much better, but the issues remain. The jerking issue seems to get worse as the truck warms up. I made a recording with the updated tuning file loaded and Black Bear responded by telling me that the engine is running as it should. I did not send a transmission recording because, at that point, I believe the issue to be with the engine, not the transmission. I've taken it to a couple other mechanics and they believe that the torque converter is failing. I tend to agree with this, but this issue began when the engine was modified. I read numerous posts on this forum and others about other issues causing symptoms like this, such as something as simple as a vacuum leak. My plan is to take the truck to a transmission shop and have the pan removed to see if it is full of debris. If it is, then rebuild the transmission and install a better torque converter. My question is, what if the pan is not full of debris? Is it possible that the engine could cause this issue?
  2. It's probably the rev limiter in the computer. I purchased a tune from BlackBear Performance and I had to record a few WOT runs before the tune and I noticed that the RPMs didn't go as high as I expected. After receiving and installing the tune, I had to record a few more WOT runs so that BlackBear could see if everything looked correct with the new tune installed. During this run, the RPMs went way higher than before the tune.
  3. Cmsmoke837: It puts out quite a bit of light. I was planning on adding additional reverse lights in the bumper step pockets but I changed my mind when I saw how much light this put out.
  4. I have a Putco Blade light bar mounted under the tail gate. I'm very happy with it.
  5. A link to a mirror that is available. https://www.amazon.com/Gentex-GENK20A-Dimming-compass-Temperature/dp/B0083AEVYA/ref=sr_1_4?crid=6DDMY86RHOV8&keywords=Gentex+Auto-Dimming+Rear+View+Mirror+silverado&qid=1642261120&s=automotive&sprefix=gentex+auto-dimming+rear+view+mirror+silverado%2Cautomotive%2C76&sr=1-4
  6. I have a 2017 WT and it came with prismatic mirror. I wanted an auto-dimming mirror so I ordered one similar to the one in the link below (same manufacturer). Mine only has the compass reading, not the temperature. The mirror has the compass sensor inside the mirror, so only a power wire was required. I can see outside temperature two ways in my Silverado; when my phone is connected via the USB cable the temperature is displayed at the top of the radio display. The other way is when I change mode or fan speed on my climate controls, my Alpine momentarily displays the climate page that included the outside temperature. When I ordered the mirror, I didn't notice what color the characters were and received one that displayed in red. So, I put that mirror in my son's Sierra and ordered another one, this time with blue/green characters. https://www.carid.com/gentex/gentex-auto-dimming-rear-view-mirror-1826498981.html?vehicle=172407
  7. When you changed the transmission fluid, did you put in the "new" transmission fluid? I don't recall what it is called, but if you're experiencing vibrations from your transmission, then the dealer will flush your transmission and add the new fluid. As I understand it, it is supposed to make the torque clutch last much longer. There is a TSB on it and they are supposed to do it for free. You could be feeling the torque converter clutch slipping.
  8. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 and pull a 5th wheel camper. I installed Roadmaster Active Suspension and it made a huge difference. They do not affect the ride when not towing. They can also be removed in about 30 minutes if you are not going to be towing for a while, in the winter for instance. I love them.
  9. I have a 2017 Silverado WT and replaced the factory I03 radio with an Alpine I209-GM radio. I replaced the steering wheel so that I had radio controls and installed a Denali display cluster at the same time. The Alpine doesn't communicate with the Denali cluster, but it does communicate with the BCM. I can display gauges and tire pressures on the Alpine display if I want. I can also connect my phone for Navigation and IHeart Radio. My backup camera connected to the Alpine and displays very clearly. You can also purchase a video module to control multiple video inputs. I recently purchased a camper and I'm going to install a camera on the back of the trailer and input the video on the Alpine. It's been 2 years since I installed it and I have had no issues with it. I didn't go with a "double din" radio because I didn't want to cut the dash in order to fit the radio. I also don't like the way that the factory radios look. In my opinion, the Alpine looks much better.
  10. White Auto and Media Services (WAMS). I purchased a cluster and their programming service. I installed an Alpine I209-GM radio at the same time. See my post.
  11. The aftermarket trim is also metal.
  12. I have a 2017 Silverado WT. I swapped out the painted bumpers with chrome, and the front bumper that I found had the fog lights. The bumper came with the lights and the bumper harness, but there is no harness on the truck if it did not come with factory fogs. I built a harness with a relay for the lights. I swapped out the light switch with one that has the fog light switch. The Harness DR. helped me out with the additional wires that I needed to add between the switch and the BCM. White Auto and Media Services (WAMS) provided the means to update the BCM programming to allow the fogs to work. I even have the indicator on the instrument display.
  13. Waffle34 - you don't replace the trim. The chrome pieces attach to the existing trim using 3M tape.
  14. I was initially looking for a "behind the grill" or "in the grill" light bar option until I found the ZRoadz light bar bracket. It bolts to tabs that already exist on the bumper. One of my issues with "behind the grill" lights is that some of the light is blocked by the grill. The ZRoadz brackets put the light bar in front of the grill so 100% of the light is useable. Another issue is the shutters in front of the grill. The ZRoadz brackets do not interfere with the shutters at all.
  15. Check out my post on page 27 of the thread below.
  16. I have a 2017 Silverado WT. You can order the chrome piece that goes on the window trim. I ordered the 4 chrome trim pieces and installed them a couple years ago. I also installed chrome covers over the door handles and chrome caps on the mirrors. None of them have come off, even when I've taken my Silverado through a car wash. I believe the brand that I purchased was Sizver.
  17. The lights are independent of each other. You can have either on or both at the same time when the light detector on the dash has determined that it is dark outside. When wired into the BCM, the off-road light won't come on during the day OR until the fog lights are on.
  18. I read a post on here about bad grounds between the cab chassis and the instrument panel. According the the pictures, there should be ground wires near the lower corners of the windshield (next to the speakers). When the cabs were being assembled, the ground wires went on top of sealant instead of under it. It sounds like you might have that type of problem.
  19. I have a 2017 Silverado Crew Cab 4WD WT with the 5.3 and the 6 speed transmission. I have an engine and transmission tune from BlackBear Performance. The difference between before and after the tune is remarkable. I believe that the biggest difference is in the transmission tune. I believe that a lot of the shudders and jerks that people feel when driving these trucks are from the torque converter locking up. The factory tune has the torque converter clutch lock up in all 6 gears, upshifting and downshifting. The BlackBear transmission tune removed the torque converter lockup command for the first 3 gears. The truck is now much smoother at lower speeds and when decelerating to a stop. I also believe that the torque converter constantly locking and unlocking contributed to the premature failure of some transmissions. Get a tune from someone who knows how these transmissions should work. BlackBear Performance is an excellent source for aftermarket tuning, but I'm sure that there are others as well.
  20. I just completed adding factory fog lights and an off-road light bar to my 2017 Silverado WT. I installed the light switch with the fog and off-road light buttons and added the fog light wires between the switch and the BCM that were not installed from the factory. I also installed the wires from the switch to the BCM for the off-road light. I chose a bumper mount light bar. It came with a harness with a relay and switch. I cut off the switch and rewired the harness to connect to the BCM. When wired up, the off-road light indicator displayed on my Denali cluster when the light was on. My 2017 Silverado WT came with a black bumper without fog lights. I installed a chrome bumper with the factory fog lights. The light harness was still on the bumper, but the Silverado did not have the connector that mates to it. I purchased an off-road light bar wire harness (again with a relay and a switch) and cut off the switch and rewired it to work with the fog lights and connect to the BCM. However, the fog lights did not come on when the switch was pressed. I learned that the fog light feature had to be enabled on a Silverado that did not come with factory fog lights. White Auto and Media Services (WAMS) has a service that allows you to enable/disable features in your BCM. I purchased the service and was able to enable the fog lights. The fog and off-road lights now can be turned on and off independently (assuming it is dark enough) and their associated indicators display on the Denali cluster. I want to thank TinkeringFox, the Harness Dr. and WAMS for their assistance in completing this upgrade.
  21. I have a 2017 Silverado WT that had the I03 radio. I installed the Denali cluster, an Alpine I209-GM radio, and the upgraded steering wheel with the buttons that control the DIC. See post below. There are also pictures in the thread.
  22. The video at the link below describes the operation of the torque converter clutch with respect to current gear and whether the transmission is upshifting or downshifting. According to the video, the stock program from GM has the torque converter clutch lock up in each gear as the transmission shifts from 1st gear through 6th gear. This also occurs while the transmission is downshifting. The person in the video recommends that the program be modified so that the torque converter clutch does not lock up in gears 1-4, upshifting or downshifting. This constant locking and unlocking of the torque converter clutch while downshifting may be what you are feeling. When I saw this video, I had already installed ECM and TCM tunes from Black Bear Performance. I asked BBP about the torque converter lockup setting and Jason replied that they set the torque converter clutch to not lock in gears 1-3. I have no issues with the way that my 2017 Silverado 5.3/6 speed shifts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHPzEG0m19w&feature=emb_rel_end I also had the dealer perform the "tripleflush" and replace my transmission fluid with the Mobile 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP fluid as indicated in TSB 18-NA-355. The dealership initially told me that the service was covered under warrantee, but when I went to pick up the truck there was a $230.00 bill waiting for me. The technician "couldn't feel the shudder during the test drive", so it wasn't covered.
  23. Yes, swapping the mounting brackets and the step pad effectively converts the 2500 bumper to a 1500 bumper. The chrome bumper is currently installed on my Silverado 1500.
  24. I couldn't get the pictures to attach to the original post. The picture attached to this post shows the two mounting brackets. The one on the left is the 2500. The one on the right is the 1500. Also attached is a picture showing the differences in the thickness of the top lip of the step pads. The one on the left is the 2500.
