Hi just wondering if anyone would be able to help. My truck makes this rattling noice when being accelerated. When it started it wasn't that bad but has progressively got worse. It's worse when it's cold then goes away for the most part once the engine is warmed up. Sounds like it's coming from the front end. Thank you! 20220307_163644.mp4

Hi everybody, I have an electrical issue with my Silverado 2008, I need the manual. Other members shared this some years ago but now isn't in dropbox. I hope someone could share me the repair manual again. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rflvemxjpqfc4h4/Gmc_Sierra_Service_Manual_Repair_Manual_Fsm_2007-2009_Download.zip?dl=0

Remote start not working GMC Sierra 2500HD 2008
Clare Burns posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
Hey all, I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0L Gasoline. Remote start is not working. This sucks a lot for those of us living in Central Alberta Initially the truck didn't start due to a check engine light coming from my downstream O2 sensors. My catalytic converters were cactus, so I removed them, had the O2 sensors adjusted and the engine light disappeared. That was two weeks ago. The remote start worked for one or two days and then I started having issues with it. At first the remote start only worked intermittently, maybe once out of every 10 or so attempts and it was random. Then it stopped working altogether. I press the lock button on the fob and then hit the start button. The park lights on the truck flash as if it's going to engage, and then nothing happens. No sounds either coming from it to suggest it's going to start up. I looked at a few forum posts and dealer recommendations and attempted fixes. This is what I've troubleshooted so far: I start the vehicle manually, then attempt to use remote start. Nothing. I'm aware it only has two start attempts. My lock and unlock buttons both work fine. There are no check engine lights or lights of any kind appearing on the dash. Hood lever sensor seems to be functioning. No hood open warning on dash. (Still may be a problem but I'd like to avoid replacing the latch and sensor unless it's my last option) Oil pressure and coolant temperature are normal. There is no extra key or key fob in the truck. Hazard lights are not on. Vehicle is definitely in park. I replaced the battery in the remote. No dice. I do have a now remote on order just in case although it does seem to be communicating fine with the vehicle. I finally found a blog that suggested that it might be the brake light switch. Apparently this can cause both the cruise control and the remote start to fail if it starts to loose it's marbles. I decided to test out my cruise control and unbeknownst to be me the cruise control will not engage either. So this morning I replaced the brake light switch (which was no easy task). I jumped in my truck to test drive it and it seemed to brake fine and the lights still worked when the pedal was depressed. Cruise control still would not engage (but I don't care as I live in central alberta and don't use it at the moment), but when I returned home, I shut down the vehicle, locked it, and attempted the remote start. It worked!! TWICE!! I was super excited, turned on the ignition to reset it, turned it off, jumped out of the truck and went to attempt it again. Nada. Nothing. No dice. Zippo. I've retried 5 times after turning on the ignition to reset it, and still nothing. Can someone please suggest where to look next? Any ideas? Anyone had the same drama and found a fix? I don't want to take it into a shop, I know it'll cost an arm and a leg! Thanks! -
My issue is a little bit different however none the less an annoying one. So yesterday i bought some led bulbs off amazon to replace the dome lights in my truck, i got them opened them up all looks good and then go to put them in, and as i did they turned on not an issue however they where to small so i have to return them, i put the old one back in and not lights in the dash and dome lights are acting up. So it was the left front one i tried it in and took it back out no others. Now none of the lights turn on by the button inside the truck. (door lights and turning them on by the small switch which turns them all on works just fine. when the door is open i can now turn the light off by pressing the button. now those issues are a little less of a bother to me, however the radio (which still works perfect) now has no lights, same with the driver info center buttons 4wd actuator light and the lights on the steering wheel lights. All the buttons however still work perfect it is just the lights. Any help is much appreciated ! Truck is a 2008 GMC sierra 2500HD SLE Diesel crew cab long box

On my 2008 GMC Sierra SLE ext. cab, my “driver door ajar” warning comes on when I put the vehicle into gear. My dome lights turn off and the doors all lock, including the driver door. Would the problem be in the driver door latch? Is there anything else that could cause this issue? Thank you.

I'm very frustrated about how GM denied an extended warranty coverage case on a well known production issue of their 2008 GMC Acadia (and many other models, see list and bulletin). Up until now I was very happy with my car and even considered upgrading soon but the way GM handled and communicated my case is careless and completely unacceptable. On Aug 6, while literally on the way to the airport for my family vacation to Europe, the check engine light came on and we had to take the airport shuttle instead. After returning in September I had the car towed to the dealer who diagnosed a faulty 35R transmission clutch wave plate. A quick internet search turned up service bulletin #14404 (https://gm.oemdtc.com/TSB/SB-10057962-6560.pdf) describing this issue as a common and well known defect in many early models (including mine), as a matter of fact grave enough to extend the warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles. I called GM customer engagment who bluntly denied the warranty because it had expired 2 weeks prior the diagnose. This is upsetting because the mileage on my Acadia is way below 120,000, the problem originated long before the expiration date and there wasn't any communication that would have notified me of that issue or triggered a sense of urgency to bring in the car before going on vacation. I strongly believe that it is GM's responsibility to rectify this well known issue under the extended warranty conditions given the above described circumstances. I'm happy to provide further evidence (plane tickets, diagnosis report) and look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem within the next 3 days.

I hope this is the appropriate sub group, if it is not, I would appreciate an admin moving it to the right one if possible. I have a 2008 Tahoe with door lock issues. All 4 doors are acting up, I know the left rear motor is out, because it will not move at all, but the other three are acting strange. Usually, on first try, all the doors will unlock, or lock with the remote or when put in drive or park as expected. A little weak, but work. But if the button (remote or door buttons) are pushed several more times, the locks do not lock or unlock. They act like they want to and move a little, but do not move completely. THe more I push the buttons, the weaker they get. I thought the actuators or motors migght be bad, but they do move, just not enough. But on some occasions, usually first try when going to the vehicle, they work normal. Do I just change the door actuators, or is there a different problem I should be looking at? Thanks for any advice. Oren H.

I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 with a original EZ Lift Tailgate that is damaged. I've found a replacement tailgate that is not EZ lift but the hinges are different. GM offers hinges to go from a non EZ lift on the truck side to an EZ lift but not the reverse (at least from what I've found). Does anyone know if I need to change the hinges on the truck bed or is there a kit or bushing I can buy to use the EZ lift hinges that are attached to the truck bed with a non EZ lift tailgate. Thanks!

Recently going into used car shopping and saw a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab with 5.3l V8. 145k miles. Any problems with these types of trucks and their motors? Anything I should look for when taking a look at this truck? Not very familiar with these types of trucks and the motor it has. Generally a good buy?

Has anyone had any issues with their 08 silverado 1500 shorting out? I don't know if its a short, ground issue or a bad body control module. My issue only happens when I am driving over 60mph. Intermittently when hitting the blinkers or the brakes the electrical system freaks out. Gauges start going crazy, radio goes out, door locks lock and unlock over and over, airbag light comes on, abs light. Seems to be happening more and more frequently. The other day it through it into 4 low and totally died on me. Took positive lead off battery put back on fired up with no problems. I just don't want to spend money on one thing and it not being that then another and another. Wondering if anyone knows what this could be. I have no aftermarket electronics. I recorded it happening and put it on YouTube. Here is the video link

Hello, I own an 08 GMC Sierra 2500HD Diesel Crew Cab Long box pick up, it's throwing a display message, but not giving me any codes, the message is service trailer brake system, it used to show that message and then I had it brought into the shop the second of July and they replaced the trailer break relay in the rear, had to change out some eye connectors at the fuse box. They also replaced the fuse. Worked great again from then to about a three weeks ago and this was including an 11 000km trip towing the trailer, it brought the message up again. The truck had been sitting and driven every once and a while, a bit of idling this winter as well, but no towing. so I replaced the fuse because it looked blown. After replaced it work fine again no more message thought maybe wet weather caused it. Now unfortunately now again yesterday I went to use it again and the message comes up, it was just recently used a few days ago and no message, today we have some dense fog as well as some rain. I think it only happens when it rains heavy or fog.. I am not entirely sure on that though. I replaced the fuse in the fuse box for the (ITBC) The one I changed out before to get it to work, and this time it did not work and nothing changed on the dash message still up. I can more than easily replace the Relay without any issues, but I don't want to do that if it is just going to create the exact same issue. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Also on a side note, whenever I start the truck it puts out grey smoke until it has warmed up passed about 79-85 degrees Celcius (174F-187F), which is normally after driving for about 5 mins 10 at most or letting it high idle until that temp, it also does smoke when driving until warmed up. it never puts out black or blue smoke. Its grey, just as it is on a cold day in a gas engine. today we've reached the highest temp lately about 8 degrees Celcius and it still smoked. It never did this in the summer or fall just after it got cold. So I am just wondering if this is normal or if something is causing this to happen when it shouldn't be. Could it be something as simple as it needing an oil change? Or also does it need a long drive at highway speed to deal with burn cleaning the DPF? I am a new owner to this pickup, and it is my first year with it so I am new to diesel's and don't know what to expect from them. Any help Is much appreciated!

So Here is Ontario we got our first snowfall this year, so I went to go move my 08 GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab Long box pickup and wouldn't go as I didn't have any weight in the back... So I switched it to 4 and went to go but nothing, The 4WD switch indicator light flashed for about 30 seconds and then finally switched (Or supposably) switched to 4WD HI and the 4WD HI light was aluminated but the 4WD wasn't working so I switched from 4HI back to 2HI and it switched normally on the switch no waiting 30 seconds... and tried switching it back again and then the service 4WD message on the dash came up. i also tried putting it in Neutral and tried 4L and 4HI but nothing. Back in the summer I was in a murder situation pulling a heavy trailer uphill so I switched to 4 all good and drove out, a few mins later went to switch back flipped it and immediately on the display came up "Service 4WD System" so I just kept driving (as per I was in a time crunch) and about 5 mins later after a few jerks of emptying a dump trailer and restarting the truck it finally switched to 2HI. After that i never thought about it again until now. I also have a loud/ quite like humming or growling noise like what winter tires would make when driving on pavement in 2HI at anything above 60 KM/h. I have bf Goodrich all terrain Tires on my truck, so I assumed it was just that. but now a little skeptical on if it is the tires or something like the transfer case. I am a good do it your self-mechanic, I don't know too much but I learn as I go, so any help is much appreciated.

I have an 08 silverado that has about 270,xxx miles on it. It has been having transmission problems when trying to shift from park to drive or reverse. I have to go back and forth between park and drive or reverse several times for it to finally shift.once it goes into gear it runs fine and doesn't have any issues. I changed the transmission filter and fluid and no change. Any ideas if it could just be a sensor or is the transmission bad.

Hi all, I have a 2008 GMC Sierra with factory remote start. About 1 out of every 10 tries, the engine starts to crank and then dies halfway through, resulting in a failed remote start. I've NEVER had an issue like this when using the key to start the truck. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a 2008 Yukon (5.3L V8, Flexfuel) that's having some starting issues after running for an extended period of time. Engine turns over fine when cold, but after driving for an extended period of time (minimum 30mins, varying speeds - city, highway), shutting the engine down and restarting after 10-30mins the vehicle starts funny. Instead of cranking over normally, it fires up almost immediately after turning the key - maybe half a crank. Engine then revs high for 5-10 seconds before returning to normal RPM. I've had the fuel pressure system tested and it came in at 55psi. I've also started monitoring if the issue pops up as the fuel level in tank decreases. I'm wondering if the Fuel Pressure Regulator on the engine block or on the tank could still be causing an issue like this? Or if the Fuel Injection System might have an issue? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My 2010 Sierra Crew Cab has the automatic climate controls and a problem that may be more common than I think. The temperature on the driver side doesn't warm up no matter the temp setting while the passenger side seems to work just fine. I tried switching between Auto and Manual modes, doesn't help. I hear a click down by my feet which I assume is the blend door actuator for my side. What is involved in changing the blend door actuator? How do I know that's the problem and not the controller? Why do the fail? Do the plastic gears break or the little motor burn up? Any suggestions or diagrams of the heater box would be very helpful. Thanks.

08 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 electrical issues
sspears posted a topic in 1999-2013 Silverado & Sierra 1500
I have a 2008 gmc sierra 5.3 4x4 and recently started experiencing cruise control failure. After changing my Brake light switch on the petal 2 times with no luck I gave up. About a week after the second brake light switch I started experiencing electrical issues else where. At random speeds my electric doors lock and unlock rapidly and my "service stabilitrak" light or "stabilitrak off" light come on and off in random sequence. During the electrical show my truck either down shifts or up shifts depending on the speed to about third gear, and the gear position light disappears. The light doesn't even come on for the cruise control anymore, and when returning to normal the speed odometer and rpm gage bounce. I tried changing my brake light switch again with no luck all OEM gmc switches. My TPS and gas petal, with computer reprograming, where changed at a dealer a couple months prior to the first issue. When I run diagnostics on it I get a lean exhaust code. I notice this happens more often in the morning time or when its raining. Like moisture may be the cause of the issue or it may be a coincidence. It might happen all day one day then might not happen at all for a week. Any help is appreciated. The dealer I bought the truck from don't return my phone call to schedule appointment and the dealer closest to my house just wants to charge me a diagnostic fee and not offer a solution.- 11 replies
