Service 4wd

I have a 2001 Silverado, 5.3L that has the service 4WD light on at random times. The odd thing about this is that the light comes on after about 6oo miles of driving. After the truck is shut down and restarted, the light stays off for another 600 miles (give or take 100) then comes back on again. Switch lights work fine and the 4WD works fine.

Is this typical of a switch circuit board failure? Wondered if anyone had this same scenario happen before I spend the $60 for a new one.

My room mates 2000 Z71 did this exact same thing took to the dealership spent $400 and it changed nothing dealership eventually credited him back and did it to the day he sold it. May wanna have it checked out but I wouldn't be suprised if they couldnt explain yours either...

It is likely the push button switch on your dash. Very common problem with those years, had the same problem with my 99. Replace the switch $40.00 and it'll likely be good to go.

mine is doing it too. its still under warenty though, so i hope they will cover it.

+1. I'm almost 100% sure that's your problem. It happened to me on my 2000 Silverado 1500. It is VERY easy to do yourself. The plastic dash cover comes off easily. Then the switch has 2 screws I believe, and pulls out. Get the P/N and order one. Then slap it back together.

Was that common for that generation?? (My 04)
