splat10 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 My truck has had it's share of electrical glitches recently. (see http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100476). This one may or may not be electrical. When i mash the gas it will get up and go like normal but when it hits about 4000 RPM it misses or skips which then causes it to downshift. If it doesn't down shift it keeps skipping along almost like it's on the limiter but at a much lower frequency. At first i though tranny slipping but i don't think so. Next the fuel pump went so i figured it was signs of the pump not getting enough gas to it but it's still does it. Now i'm thinking plugs/wire/coil pack but i just had the plugs and wires done about 40k ago. It only happens when i really get into it (like to pass on a 2 lane road). I almost never do it. Any ideas on hwere to start. Keep in mind this truck is rotting away so i don't want to put a ton of $$$ in it. I could do plugs cheap enough though i guess.
ShoddyHog Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Man, I still think you have a voltage problem...either the battery or the cable. I've just seen a couple posts in the last few days over on the GTO forum about cars not running right and such. They replaced the battery, and everything got better.
Irv Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Could be bad a wire(s) or plug(s) as well, get them tested to rule the easy stuff out first then dig deeper if you have too? Good Luck
2COR517 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 What do you have for plugs in there now, and what are the gaps?
ShoddyHog Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Could be bad a wire(s) or plug(s) as well, get them tested to rule the easy stuff out first then dig deeper if you have too? Good Luck I think that was already suggested in his other thread. Might be wrong.
splat10 Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 how do you test plugs and wires? Measure the resistence of the wire? Spec? Or do i have to let the stealer hook it up to the scanner?
