Realistically Do I Have Any Bargaining Power Here?

I'm shopping for a new 3/4 ton diesel 4x4. I'm pretty much set on that basic configuration but so far I'm not finding much at all on the local area lots or online in my vicinity.

I've heard that a dealer can find a specific type of truck if I want it but he doesn't happen to have one on his own lot. But it seems to me that if I took that route I would not have much bargaining power at all with respect to price. I'd have more leverage, if any, on a truck he already had on his own lot and wanted to move.

Am I right, or would it be a useful strategy after all, to visit a local dealer and ask him if he could find what I'm looking for even if he doesn't have one himself?

Duramax inventory is low almost everywhere due to the shutdown and demand is there, so my best guess would be little to no chance to score a diesel on the cheap, even used duramax's are demanding a premium right now, Good luck.

Contact Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, Idaho. They can get you what you want (they have many vehicles in stock, can usually get the one you want). (Of course, if no one has one, then no one has one...) They have great prices (better than supplier pricing in my case). Call them (800-635-8000) or go online.

You can request a quote online, sales are helpful and if you are out of the area, they often will pick you up at the airport so you save rental car or taxi.

I am not affiliated with them but have purchased several vehicles from them.

Yes, you still have bargaining power. If they want to make a sale, they'll deal with you. They'll do a dealer trade so it won't cost them much either.

Have you tried autotrader or other similar sites to do your own search?

Good luck
