My Truck Starts On The Second Try..

My truck starts on the second try alot of times. I did a search for "second start", but I did not come up with anything. Its probably a common issue, at least I hope. Never had to do a third start, but I want to fix it now before I'm left stranded.

... it may be a fuel pressure problem beginning to occur...

... last year, my '97 5.7L always took two tries to get it started.... then 3 or 4... then 5 or 6 ... and so on...

... once it was running there was no other performance issues

 

... at the time my mechanic said that the truck might need a new fuel pump as the fuel pressure was marginal

... this spring I got frustrated at the poor starting, so I took it to my mechanic and he said the fuel pump was much worse (ie., lower pressure)... replaced the fuel pump and it starts and runs great since then.

... the Vortec engines with SCPI injectors like my 97 need 61 to 66 psi fuel pressure and this is critical to having them working properly,

maybe i can start with my fuel filter since its cheap and very easy to replace, then move on to the fuel pump.

Sounds like a good plan to me, that's where I'd start.
