Slight Vibration Issue

Recommended Posts

I have noticed a slight vibration / buzzing in the floorboard that can be felt under my left foot.

It seems to be rpm dependant and isn't affected by varying speed. The vibration occurs from around 1500 to 1700 rpm and is nonexistant below or above this range.

Not sure if it is related to the exhaust (stock). The exhaust does seem to have more resonance in this range. No different than anyother 6.0.

I did place it into 4HI, had no effect.

To start, I guess I'll have to bring it into the dealer and check things out.

Just wondering if anyone with a NBS HD may be experiencing anything simular or if any TSB's are available.

Ok, so I have been driving this truck for 13 days since purchasing it. The vibration is still there and on top of that, there seems to be an excessive amount of road noise / feedback felt at the steering wheel (ISS ?).

This is very disturbing to me. Truck has 500 miles on it! Feels like 100,000+.

Before I totally lose it, I gotta get it into the dealer to see what they say. I'll be calling tomorrow to make a service appt. Just hope I don't get the old "this is just a characteristic of this vehicle" crap.

Brought the truck into the dealer yesterday, tech found "nothing unusual in the front end". SHOCKER!

They did lube the front end (why lube the front end if nothing unusual)?

I did get the left side roof marker lamp replaced (right side ordered) both were inoperable

Oh well, I'm not overly concerned. I have 3/36k to see how things "shake-out", pun intended

Wanted to bring this thread back to the top to see if any others might be experiencing something similar.

I continue to get a vibrating sensation in my left foot when resting on the floor. At times it can also be felt in my right foot thru the gas pedal. This only occurs at around 1500 rpm and subsides around 1800 rpm when the engine is under load. It does not occur when the engine is not under load i.e. idling, coasting down a hill in the same rpm range or immediately upon lifting off the gas pedal.

I'm fairly confident its an exhaust drone / vibration issue.

Other than this minor issue, the truck is fantastic, could not be happier with it. The 6.0 / 6 spd. combo is perfect for my needs. It feels much more responsive and gutsier than my previous GMT 800 6.0 / 4 spd. combo (which had a performance tune installed).

I have an '05 2500HD that I bought new and just last week I started to get a 'thumping' noise under my left foot occassionally. Almost feels like someone is tapping the floor with a rubber mallet.

I also have an exhaust drone, but it doesn't get noticeable until you go over 70mph. Once you back off the gas, it's gone.

My truck had a clunk feel in the steering wheel the day I bought it that was more pronounced on smooth roads with just light bumps. It resembled my Intermediate Shaft in my 03. Guess what...it was! It went in the shop over 10 times,l swapped it out 3 times and it kept coming back. Finally an Engineer came up to fix it. Something was causing it to wear it out in a couple of days. I haven't got my paperwork yet so Im not sure what else they changed. When I first brought it in, I do remember they said it could be my running boards. Sometimes they weren't tight enough and they would rattle and hum. It was very obvious in the floor. Might be worth a trip under with a ratchet!

Finally a couple of replies. I was beginning to think I was the only owner of a GMT900 with an issue or two.

I do not have running boards or steps installed.

I would really appreciate hearing more about what was done to resolve your issues.

Initially when I took delivery of my truck, I thought there was an excessive amount of NVH coming from the front end.

There was a definite issues with my ISS as well. I removed the pinch bolt and exercised the shaft to redistribute the grease. It seems to be ok for now.

The front end seemed to be very noisy / clunky. Since putting some miles on, it seems much quieter. My truck had a build date of 12/08, I purchased in 11/09, maybe things stiffen up when allowed to sit for to long :banghead:

The buzzing in the floor continues. I recently drove on snow covered roads with 4x4 engaged, the vibration was not as noticable. Now I'm wondering if it is tire / wheel issue :shakehead:

I have the same drone on my 09 HD, gas. I also had the thumping noise when turning either direction. Dealer made me remove my step bars before they would look at it so I did and of course it still made the noise. Turns out they replaced the body mounts and bolts under the cab and it fixed it. They said that it had the wrong mounts and bolts on it. Hope this helps.

Fantastic, incorrect bushings and bolts from the factory

I have no "thumping" noise, just a vibration that can be felt in the floor, steering wheel and gas pedal.

Recently I was driving, the temp. was 22 deg. The vibration was mostly non existent :loser: I'm very persistent, I'll get the issue resolved eventually, right now its to damn cold out, 10 deg.

Just a quick update... my 'thumping' noise was actually caused by a bad driver side front wheel bearing. $250 and 2 hours later, the noise was gone..

you are a paying customer and if you are not happy ,leave it with them ,and say fix it ,call the regional service manager and get mad,

don't waste any effort here ,you only get "my 1956 truck did the same thing"

its not your problem,

its GM's

so many days in the service dept for the same concern is labeled and shop queen to GM and it gives you more amo,,

get mad at gm not the truck
