Idle Only...

Hi guys,

I have an 03 sierra, LB, CC, D/A.

I was driving around this weekend when all of a sudden, the engine sort of cut out - as if I had let go of the pedal (No chimes, no SES light, nothing). The engine would keep running, but no matter what I did with the acceleratot pedal, the engine RPM would not go over idle. I had to drive the rest of the way home like that (4 MPH).

After I let it sit in the driveway for an hour, I fired it back up and it ran fine. So off I went again and same thing happened after 5 minutes on the road.

I checked the APP sensor and all 3 of it's sensors are working fine. I unplugged the sensor cable (with the engine running) which resulted in a "Reduced Power" message along with a sound chime.

I reconnected it and all SEEMS to be fine since. I am a little nervous as I am heading for a big trip in a couple of weeks with it.

Anybody have any ideas?

Next time it happens take note of if the PRNDL indicator on the cluster is showing the correct gear (or any at all). This will happen if the trans range switch is having issues. If the TCM doesn't get a valid gear it goes limp to save the trans in vehicles with the Allison trans.

Could be going into some sort of "limp mode", but I would think that would throw a ses light...huh...suppose it could be tranny related. Have someone with a scanner look at it from the inside, might find the answer.
