Hey guys just looking for advice from people who own a classic GM. My wife is selling her 2000 Mustang GT with 80k miles for $5000. I got a call from a guy who wants to do a even trade for my stang, he owns a 1986 GMC C10 short bed, step sides, 3spd column shifter (column needs replacing, shifting is loose and gets jammed), 4.3L V6, Candy blue paint (not fan of but no real rust anywhere), 20" rims, new flowmaster exhaust, and HID headlights. Overall truck is pretty clean, drove smooth, needs some work but not bad. Just looking for some input one what everyone thinks, thanks. Jason

 

Now have another offer to trade for a 1998 GMC 2500HD 5.7L Extra cab long bed w/new tires.

...linkage on the GM 3-sp column shift has ALWAYS been an issue ... I have not seen one for so long I kind of forgot about that ... it's not a big deal, you just learn to live with it.

 

...between the trucks... it depends on what you might use or want a truck for ... the '98 will serve to haul some weight or haul a trailer for you once in a while.... and the '86 will look good and have more naustalgia sitting on your driveway

 

... kind of a toss-up as long as both are running in good condition

Agreed, the shift problem can possibly be resolved with new bushings.

 

You have the opprotunity to gain a Chevy truck in trade for a Ford, well let's see....

She will drive "my" 2003 Ford Expedition. I found a remaned steering column for 86 c10 for around 250. I dont really tow anything but I seem to move alot and usually finding myself needing a truck bed after a traded in my 2003 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab. Just not sure if I want to do an even sway, looking for little cash but not sure.

I would go for the 98 and forget about the 86.

Now I have a 2000 Chevy S10 Extra Cab that has Air Suspension and rims. Don't really care for rims but suspension could be nice. Was thinking I could always do a V8 350 swap on the S10.

Get the 86 tell the guy you want a thousand and his truck. Column fix is less than 20 bucks

My 70 C/10 has a column and is really sloppy. But it can be fixed with new bushings. Same is most likely true with that blue truck.

... same old GM column shift linkage.... I learned to drive in a '61 Chev Biscayne that had exactly the same linkage assembly... loose ... and it jammed once in a while...

I agree. But too bad it's a 6cyl. Better fuel mileage though.
