Excessive Hood Vibration

Howdy All,

I finally made the switch, traded in my 07 1500 Sierra for a 08 2500 Duramax Crew Cab, Long Bed 4X4 Z71. I LOVE IT.

One thing I am noticing however is how much vibration/shaking I am seeing on the hood while driving down the street at normal speeds. Now I know GM is using thin metal now for the beds however it seems to be the same issue with the hood. I can't believe how bad it shakes/vibrates! Does anyone else have this issue? Yes, I verified the hood is latched shut properly. I'm tempted to take it into a GMC Dealer, however before I possibly get laughed at by the Service Writer with a dumb look of "What do you expect us to do about that?" I figured I'd ask on here first. So far this has been my only issue with the truck. That and I just can't seem to get the leather seats into a comfortable position for my back. Ah well. Being close to 300 lbs will wear those seats in over a few months.

I doubt the metal is any thinner than the 800's were. My 02 had very thin sheet metal - they all do. As a matter of fact the 01 and 02 models would crack the bed sides if you installed a heavy tool box on them. The hood vibration on my 08 isn't noticeable unless you are looking for it. Maybe you should have it looked at.

Put some white chalk on the rubber stops and close the hood. Open and see if the hood made contact with the stops.

If not, then screw them anti clockwise a half a turn at a time until they do.

I had to adjust my stops on my '05 when it was new. When going down the road it looked like my hood was fluttering.

Mines been doing this since the day I got it... used car dealer adjusted rubber stops, body shop tweaked the hood. Come to find out the hinges were replaced according to the GM history site. So my guess is some adjustment is needed there.
