Sierra Gmt900 Firewall Question

Everyone out there that has installed a system in their trucks where did you run your power wire? I have mine temporarily run through the pass through for the door speakers on the passenger side. I don't really want to drill a hole in the firewall if I don't need to.

 

I've used the Search feature on the site and I haven't seen anything regarding a GMT900 only 800's

I just did my amp install yesterday and I ran it through the same hole that your hood latch release cable goes through. It's a great spot. My 4 gauge fits perfectly. It's to the right of the brake booster if you're at the front of the truck. You can either modify the existing grommet or throw some silicone around the hole so it seals back up.

I have run several wires through the main wire harness grommet on the drivers side. The grommet is fairly large and you just make a slit in the rubber between the wires and edge of the grommet, for added protection squirt a little rtv sealer after you run your wire. Just take care not to cut the wires, obviously. Done this on my 99 silverado and 2006 silverado w/o any long term problems.

Theres some metal above/behind the junction block that easy to drill through and use a heavy duty grommet. The foam insulation even has a precut circle there, i think for manual trucks. You need to unbolt the junction block but it keep the wires out of the way and with the sealing grommets stay water tight although I've never seen a problem running it through a slit in the main harness grommet, thats how we did it at a shop I worked at, I just wanted a super clean install for my truck.
