2wd Bigger Tires

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

This is my first post. I just bought an 09 Sierra 1500 SL. It has the stock 17's. I want to put 20 inch wheels (possibly OEM) with taller tires on it.

My question is about the Nitto Grapplers....What is the biggest size I can fit on my truck with these? I will not be lifting it. Stock height - 20 inch wheels.

TIA!

Congrats on the new truck.. As mentioned... 275/55r20 is the stock tire size. Without a leveling kit, thats about the biggest tire your going to get on there. Post up some photos of your truck when you get a chance

Thanks guys! Explain to me this levelling kit....This is my first truck EVER. So I am new to it all. Is that something I should look into getting?

I've had the truck for 2 weeks now. Mods so far - tint, black billet grill, 6k HIDs.

My Sierra Denali came with a set of 285/55R20 Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires which did not rub.

The leveling kit is typically a metal spacer to install above the front strut pushing the front of the truck up a couple of inches. It is an inexpensive lift for the front end.

It also shifts the balance of weight from the front more to the rear. This is not an issue until you place a load in the bed or on the trailer hitch. The front is intentionally lower so that when the rear end settles under load the front end will still have enough down pressure to keep the front tires steering. Personally I do not plan to level my truck as I often place near capacity or even overloaded loads in the bed.

Thanks for the info! I think I would be fine with the kit as I sont think I will hardly ever load the bed up. Whats the best kit out there?

The Rough Country kit seems to be popular around here for being a good quality and yet kinda inexpensive. It will be something I will do on the truck in the near future. I'm sure there are alot more options in leveling kits and others will chime with their preferences and opinions. Congrats on your truck and happy modding!

Your putting grapplers on a 2wd ?

Not to hijack this thread but I plan on doing the same to my 2007 2WD Z71.

Wait...... What type of grapplers are we talking about here?

Mud grapplers, terra grapplers, dune grapplers, etc....

For me it would be the Terra Grapplers.

Ok.. That makes more sense to me now. I was thinking mud grapplers.

i am also looking at all terrains for my truck with the stock 20's once i need new tires..

thinking about a lift as well so that will increase max tire size.

not mudders because i am not going mudding and dont need to look like i am going mudding, but i just like all terrains because i like the added traction on and off road, plus it makes the truck look meaner. no different than adding a cold air intake and exhaust for sound, performance, and looks.
