1997 Suburban 4 Wheel Drive Issues

When I attempt to shift my 'burb into 4 High, it will only go into 4 low. Have tried several times, but only goes into 4 low. and shifting out of 4 low it clunks, loudly. Is this likely the actuator? Or something else? It's the first time I have needed to put it in 4 wheel drive in over a year. So, not sure if something got 'gummed' up during that time? Drives in 2 wheel drive without issue. Has 180k+ miles, and gets driven infrequently. I did a search and couldnt find anything. Please help!

Push button or manual shifter on floor?

Sorry for the omission, is a push button system. Have only used it sparingly in the past several years. First time I have had any issues. Truck is damn near bullet proof.

I have seen a lot of postings concerning the switch going bad. The solder breaks loose on the connections in the back of the switch. Pop it out, and then take it apart and check that first.
