Ok guys, Wondering if I can permanently turn off the auto dimming mirrors on my truck. I can't see out of my back glass due to tint and the dimming mirrors really don't help. Thanks for any advice.

I'm in the same boat your in. I hate this feature. If somebody is driving too close behind me I can't see them! I always turn it off.

The tint can be turned off by holding down the left button on your inside mirror several seconds. But the next time you start your truck they will be on again.

Yea, I do that everytime I get in the truck. Kinda a pain in the rear. I want a permanent fix.

It looks like the dimming for the ISRV and driver's OSRV mirrors is all done from within the ISRV mirror itself. It's possible it could be turned off with a Tech II and a call to Tech Line, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Another way would be to put tape/paint/decal over the sensor on the outside of the mirror. You could crack open the mirror and put something over the sensor directly. The light sensor is the cadmium sulfide photosensor centered at the top of the glass.

On a side note, anyone know what the sensor is in the front of the mirror, I don't see anything in the FSM. Nevermind, it's another CdS photocell used by the mirror to tell the ambient light outside to see if it should allow the dimmer to operate.

Alternatively, if you cracked it open you could probably cut the wiring for the part that actually dims and for the OSRV mirror as well.

Lastly you could get a new mirror that doesn't have the dimming feature.

These are just my thoughts based on what I see in the FSM, someone might have a better solution.

my solution to your problem would be taking off your rear view mirror take it apart and remove one off the wires that its around the mirror's glass... I know this because ive done it and it works!
