What Engine Is In This Truck

Friend has a 1999 2500 gas silverado. The thing is really powerful and fast, totally stock. He says its a "454". In my head i wanna say its a 6.0L. Whats in it?

Old body style or newer?

 

If its similar to yours, it's the 6.0, if it's the older style it could be 5.7. The 8.1 came out in 02 I believe.

It looks more like mine than yours. It has a solid chrome bar across the front, with lights on top and bottom of the bar on both sides. The lights arent as aggressive as mine, they are kinda oval-ish.

Could be a 454. 2001 was the first year for the Duramax/8.1 liter 2500hd's.

as Steven says .. depends on whether 99 old body or 99 new body

 

if the old body then I believe engine options were 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L (454)

new body engines were 5.3L and 6.0L, with the 8.1L coming out later

 

somewhere around the radiator housing, there should be a sticker that gives the engine information

If it is the style like in the picture that you posted then it is probably a 6.0.

 

The only Silverado 2500 offered in 1999 with that style was the light duty 2500 which offered the 5.3 and 6.0, though I have never heard of one having a 5.3. Chevrolet also had the C/K2500 that had either a 5.7 (350) or 7.4 (454), but this was the style of truck that dated back to 1989. The Silverado 2500HD that had the 6.0 or 8.1 gas engines did not come out until the 2001 model year; the 2500HD replaced the C/K2500.
