Getting New Tires & Maybe New Rims.

I was thinking about getting new tires for my GMT900 '07 Silverado. Currently running Firestone Destination (factory tires) on 265/70/17.

I do mostly highway driving, but when I go off-roading, I want something that performs very well in the mud or terrain. btw it snows a fair amount of where I live in SWVA.

Thought about gettin' the Copper Discovery STT's, Toyo Open Country M/T's, Mickey Thompson MTZ Radial or Pro Comp M/T's. I just can't make my mind up on which one I want?!

Currently got my RC 2" leveling kit and was thinking about getting 285's or getting new Black rims to match with my Black truck. Is it just better to powedercoat my 17" rims??

I plan on getting Cooper STT... I'd love the Toyo's but can't imagine dropping 1,200+ bones on them. Same with the Mickey's I'd LOVE to have some but can't drop that money on tires. Matt has mentioned it several times his guy in NJ quoted me $970 for 285/70/17's shipped to my door which is the cheapest I've found them shipped. Local dealer wants over 1k for them not including mounting and balancing. I'd give him a shout with whatever you want to get.

I would really like to have the Mickey's but if I can get em' for under 1K

That would be great! I'm still stuck which is better Cooper or Toyo?

Almost the same identical tire.

I don't think you'll get the Mickey's under 1k..... If so I'd be all over them... Let me know if you can find somewhere

The Cooper's and Toyo's have almost the same tread pattern. The sidewalls are different. People that run the Toyo's get a ton of mileage out of them (for a mud tire) and I've heard they aren't very loud. Now the Cooper's also get alot of mileage. My buddy has some that are at about 45k miles on them and have alot of tread left but he's been good about rotating. I like the looks of the Cooper alot too.

I would say if the money difference doesn't matter to you go with the Toyo's. But if you're looking to save a few bucks and put it else where in the truck (Like I am) I'd go with the Coopers. Its alot of the same thing for a big money difference.

Also... Mickey Thompson is made by Cooper. Cooper is a good tire brand and is based here in the good ol' USA!

I didn't know Mickey Thompson tires are made by Cooper?!

I guess whichever one is cheaper that I can find is the one I'm gonna get....Really do like the Toyo's thou.

What tires are you running right now?

I got 17" Rims but I want some black ones like Monster or Moto-Metals or Eagle Alloys something similar to that. Gonna order the Zone 1.5 or 3 BL here in the next couple of weeks. I wanna run 33's tires & I don't know for sure whats the max size of tires to fit on a rim, I'm really confused on that part.

Is there anyway I can buy a tire/wheel combo kit?

I'm running the stockers right now until I get the money up in the summer to buy new shoes (I'm a college kid paying for my own truck). And I don't know much about aftermarket rims with offset and backspacing and yada yada so someone else will have to help you out there. And I don't think there is anyway you're gonna find Toyo's cheaper than Coopers. Every place I've looked Toyo's are running close to or over $300 a tire

Well I'm in the same boat you are, college kid haha.

I was strongly thinking about getting rims too but I have no idea if I should just wait for them in the future or not bc I would really like to have some!

I guess I probably go with Cooper bc my friends has those on his truck & he said he loves 'em lol
