Rear Diff Drain Plug

Recommended Posts

So this weekend I changed out my rear differential on my 01 Gmc Sierra. Followed the direction on the write up, remove fill plug, then drain plug, then the cover, clean magnet and scrape off old gasket, put in a new cover gasket then tighten fill and drain plug to spec and last refill with about 2 1/2 quart. So, I did all that and when I checked under the truck a day later it seem to be leaking a little from the drain plug am I missing something? I've searched and read 6 pages and found nothing about replacing the drain plug when changing the rear diff oil.

Read the first sentence in your post.

It does not hurt to put a small amount of RTV sealant on the drain plug threads before replacing the plug.
