Swapping Center Console For Jump Seat

Rich,

Thanks for the reply, I think. What do I really have for options besides taking out the harness and amp and attaching it out of the way? Is there any other way to make the radio work? Buying a different truck with the seat in already is probably the best option but not as easy as it sounds. Not listening to the radio on our trip probably isn't going to work either. Suppose I could talk one of my kids into not going along on vacation this summer. Probably not going to work either.

Is there any other way to get the stereo to work besides being hooked to the harness and amp?

You guys sure know your stuff. I'm impressed.........but, I do have a question. I am tearing out my console (with bose and air) and installing the jump seat. What is the dash piece that I need to cover up the hole where the console ties into the dash? The parts guy at the dealership says that I need to buy the entire lower dash piece that includes a new glove box. Is that true, or is there just a smaller piece that will have the cigerette lighter/plugs in them? And I understand that I need the CJ2 bezel for my ac duct work because I have the auto temperature dials. Is that true?

I think that you would have the CJ3 air system (the way I understood it from Rich was that the CJ2 came on the work packaged trucks). you are gonna have to buy the "module kit" to close up the airbox hole that you are about to find in your dash when the floor console goes. look at my picture in the first page and you will see what I am talking about for the black airbox near the floor. Also, there is another piece that goes on the truck, it is the panel (one piece) for the glovebox that runs from the right side of the truck to the knee bolster panel.

Well, I got the console out and the jump seat in. It all went pretty smooth. I ran the wires for the amp under the carpet and secured the amp under the jump seat. It's not moving at all, but I am concerned about the heat. I guess I'll just watch it closely. I am now about to change the dash over, but still waiting on the right parts. I've got the dash/glove box coming, but still have a question about the "cj2" or "cj3"..... I have a large air vent hole that sits to the left of that black box the M. Cueva shows in his picture. Is the cj2/cj3 the actual black box that tapers up to the dash that is shown in his picture? Does this also close off the vent hole?

By the way, my console is in fantastic condition if anybody is looking for one. Tan in color. Tuck is 2004

CJ2 vs CJ3 is the air box that GM used. CJ2 was for the WT level trucks only and CJ3 was used for all the rest. The difference is that if you have the CJ2, all you need is the lower (visible) portion of the airbox. If you have CJ3 installed, then you must get the "module kit" - which is both the lower half (visible) and the upper part (behind the pass. airbag, dash and all the other crap). Look at your SPID sticker in your glovebox. You should have the CJ3 from the factory which means that you are going to have to rip out both halves of the original airbox and install the CJ3 that looks like mine.

Remember, there are two versions of the CJ3:

the one that you have (with the hole)

and the one that is in my photo.

Are you guys sick of me resurrecting this thread yet? Well, just got 1 more question. My glove box says the CJ2 is needed. Ordered one up, but it has weird holes cut out of it that will show. It also doesn't seal up the lower vent, just covers it up. Any ideas?

UTGringo,

My turn to resurrect this thread! What did you end up doing with your HVAC system? I am going to do the same mod as you did, console to jump seat, and I too have the CJ2 code and the automatic temp system (my truck is an SLT). Could you reply regarding the parts you had to buy? If you happen to still have part numbers, that would be great. Did you ever consider just sealing the vent hole up with some sort of gasket material and a piece of plastic similar to the duct material and not tearing into the dash? Finally, how much of the dash trim did you end up replacing and did this include the cigarette lighter and the aux 12 volt power port?

Thanks in advance,

David

Hey there,

Just found this thread today, am swapping out the jump seat for a console, already bought the console before I discovered I'd need the different part for the glove box.

If anyone's reading this that's swapping the console out for the jump seat, and would like to trade their glove box and parts they'll otherwise no longer need (duct adapter, etc) for my jump seat and glove box, it's the pewter(gray) color. I won't need your console, you can sell it on ebay and make a profit.

Mine's a GMC 2004 1500, and my jump seat is immaculate.

What parts do you need to change over the console dash to the jump seat dash? I'm sick of seeing wires and the holes in lower dash.

How exactly did u cover the hvac? And what parts did u get to cover the hole on the lower center console. I bought my truck half way done. And it had the center console and they switched it for the jump seat. And I have no clue what to do. But no I don't like the wires sticking out or the missing part on lower center console.

I went the opposite way with my old truck. here's a link to some pics:http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a147/Nic...console%20swap/you have to take care of the Bose Amp, a/c ductwork, and lower dash panel (one piece from passenger side connecting to the middle).being I was installing the console I just cut my dash panel and it lined up nice with the center console.
