The rear axles on the 4x4 trucks are narrower than the front tracking width.  The reason I've been told for this is so that the 2wd and 4x4 could share the same rear axle, if thats true I'm not sure.  I've also read where it helps on road handling.

I personally hate the fact there are two different tracking widths.  Makes it so much easier to get stuck as you are cutting two different tracks instead of one.  Our old '82 could go through almost as much mud in two wheel as our three trucks since it in four wheel it seems.

I think all GM's are like that.

On the FWD cars, the reasoning is supposedly that the narrower rear track reduces understeer.

However, on a truck where an unloaded bed tends to result in large amounts of oversteer, I have no idea what the explanation is.

I think all GM trucks and SUVs are like that, Its not as noticeable on my 02 as it was on my ZR2 Blazer and our 91 C/K! A guy has a 90 2500 diesel and it is really noticeable on it?????
