Tire/rim Upgrade Help

Hi gang, longtime lurker here. This probably should have gone in the rubber/wheels forum but there's likely to be more towers in this crowd.

I need help picking some new rims/tires on my '08 2500HD 4x4 with 4.10 gears. The stock 245/75R16s look so small on the truck they look silly.

During camping season I tow a 10,000# 5er, 5 to 10 weekend trips, and haul the occasional bed full of dirt/bricks/lumber. Not sure if I can/should go up to a 17" rim or stay with the stock rim and a taller tire, dont want to lose a lot of torque or mpg but want to fill in the wheel wells. No leveling kit installed.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Well seems like alot of guys on here go to 265/75/16's to give the truck a lil more tire and fill the fenderwell. I am sure more will chime in soon. 285/65/16 would be a lil taller and wider.

My 08 2500HD 4x4 CCLB 373 gears came with 265-70-17 on it. It now has 285-70-17 I put the indexing keys and air bags on it and now it looks a lot better the old tires looked so small on it. I lost about 1.5mpg with the tire change. What do you get with yours?

i have 285/65/16s on my 02 3/4 ton and 285/55/20s on my 08 3/4 ton. I will admit i loose a little mpg at the stop light but i would never own a truck with less than 285s on it... I had 305s on my old 01 3/4 on the original 16 inch rims and they looked good but they were a little squishy
