Looking at a new 2010 GMC CCSB SLT 4x4 6.0 to replace my 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD CCSB LS 4x4 with the 6.0. Mine only has 55,000 on it and is in pretty decent shape. Few scratches here and there, but still nice. I really like the looks of the newer GMC's and the new silver color they have is sharp. Found one not too far away. MSRP on it is $45,130. With rebates, discounts, GM Card, trade, sales tax, fees, etc., I think I can trade for around $20K. I know that seems ridiculous, but used pickups are priced very high and this has pretty much everything I want except DVD. Am I crazy to trade in a 55,000 trouble free mile pickup for $20K? I'd like to wait for a new 2011 but I'm sure the discounts will be much less at least till gas hits $4 again. Plus other than the frame suspension and a minor grille change the 2011 gassers are pretty much the same as the 2010's. Looking at the specs the newer 6.0's have 360 hp compared to my 300 hp. Anyone comment on the older 4-speed 6.0's compared to the newer ones? Only negative I've heard is they downshift alot more. My problem is that this is more of a want thing than a need. Probably should just wait to sell mine outright and wait for an 11. Just wanted some opinions and feedback on the newer 6.0's more than anything.

I bought my 09' GMC EC SLE 2500HD 4X4 6.0 3.73 in Nov. 09. Traded in my 03' Silvy 2500HD 6.0 4.10 with 47,000 miles. Like yourself, I didn't need a new truck but the deal was way too good to pass up. With incentives plus my trade around 20k. off sticker.

I'm very impressed with the GMT900 to this point. It really is superior in many ways to the GMT800, IMHO. The additional 60 hp, 6 spd. and 3.73 seem to be a great match for all around performance. The engine feels more responsive in all gears. Not sure what my local mpg's are (around 13 if I had to guess) but I recently achieved 18.4 on the highway. With Tow/Haul mode there seems to be better control while towing and hauling heavy loads. I most like the aggressive downshifting to aid with braking. Speaking of braking, the integrated brake control works great. I actually prefer it to the Prodigy unit in my previous truck. The truck is much more comfortable (more supportive seats), RR EC doors have power windows (bout time!) Overall it seems more refined than my previous truck.

I've had one minor issue with the trans. Very intermittently, when cold I would get the "flash" between 3-4 up shifts. Now that the outside temps have warmed, I can't recall the last time it occurred.

I have a couple other minor issues also. Drivers side front door speaker sounds distorted. Exhaust flange in front of muffler is leaking gasses / condensation. I have the dreaded Ebony "lint magnet" upholstery. All are warranty or TSB issues that will be addressed later.

Your definitely making an upgrade over your GMT800 (still a very capable truck) going with the 10' and most definitely with the 11'. If it were me, I would go with the best deal on a 10'. You should be able to get a smoking deal with the 11' hitting the dealers soon.

Make sure to post some pics of the new truck........cause you know your getting one

For pity's sake, DO IT!!!

I once bought a 1999 really boring dark blue Suburban LT. A couple of weeks later, the dealer got in a new Victory Red Suburban LT with every option but the kitchen sink. Soooo, I traded in my boring dark blue Suburban on the Victory Red one, plus $7,000.

And it was the best freaking money I ever spent.

About a month ago, I sold my 2006 Duramax (loaded) which I simply did not drive. In four years, I put a pathetic 5,800 miles on it.

And I bought a new 2010 Silverado LTZ in Victory Red and I love it to pieces. In the last month, I've put 1,000 miles on my new baby and I love it more every day.

Hey, you only live once. If the new 2500 HD will bring spice and happiness into your life ... absolutely DO IT!!!

Take my word for it, the GMT-900 blows the GMT-800 out of the water. You will love everything about the new rig; more power, the new tranny; everything.

DO IT!!!

Agreed! In my opinion... Night and day between trucks.

Do you know that GMT-900 2500HD and 3500 trucks are a GMT-900 body and pickup bed riding on an GMT-800 chassis, suspension, axles, brakes etc? When GM redesigned the trucks back in 07 only the 1500 got a new chassis. The HD trucks were all carryover with the only change being the revisions to ther 6.0 and the 6l90 trans in place of the 4l80e.

I have always liked the GMT-800 platform and I think it is a proven frame and suspension. I love my 09 2500HD but if I was is your position, I'd stick with your truck. You have rock solid trans, much less computer intervention with torque management and much thicker sheetmetal. In this case I would say newer is not necessarily better unless you just really really want something new and shiny in the driveway.

Yep, that's the problem. I feel like I need a new shiny pickup in the driveway. I may wait a little longer yet till some 2011's start showing up and some reviews are out there in case the 2011's are just too good to pass up. Then again, maybe they'll still have a few 10's around too and the deals may get sweeter. I'm just a little concerned though that the extra 700 lbs. these 2011's are going to weigh is going to knock the power down some on the 6.0 as it's capable, but is not over-powered either. I know one thing as soon as I buy one they'll be a better sweeter deal out there the next week. Thanks for the replies.

When I went from a 99 Silverado GMT-800 to a 07 Sierra GMT-900, it was a night and day difference. While the engine had a bit more power, the inside SUCKED compared to the 99! The GMT-900 interior is more cramped less room as compared to the 800s. I swear my 99 was better than my 07 in every way except for engine performance. Then this past year I got me a 08 2500 Duramax and other than me preferring the look of the older Sierras over that of the new 07+ GMT-900s, I am happy!!

I traded my 04 1500 for a 09 2500HD and I have to say I liked the interior of the 04 better. The seats really suck in the 09. The interior seems really cheap to me. As for the exterior, the rear bumper is already getting little rust spots.

The 6.0 seems to have good power though I have not towed with it yet. On the downside when I start the engine it sputters and idles very rough for about a minute. Not sure why and I have not had it to the dealer yet. The tranny seems fine. I like the option to manually shift gears with the button on the gearshift. I also like the agressive downshifts while in tow/haul mode. Overall the 09 seems very "cheap" to me but they made me a deal I couldn't refuse so I bought it.

If you haven't bought a 2010 just yet...do definitely hold out for the 2011's

From what I'm seeing it doesn't look like the sticker is going up too much on the new 2011's, although there won't be the $5000 rebate either. I imagine by this fall there will be some kind of rebate or lower financing unless this economy gets a lot better. It's probably best to just wait and try to sell my 05 outright. I really think I can get $20K out of it in the condition it's in. Dealers only want to give me wholesale, which is between 15-16K. So the numbers are probably going to all work out about the same anyways and I'll have the newest platform. I'm really anxious to see if the added weight of the frame taxes the 6.0 more. My current 6.0 with the BB tune works pretty well and handles the loads I pull adequately. But I guess I could always get the new 6.0 tuned as well. My cousin has had a 3500HD SRW CCLB 6.0 on order for a month. It's supposed to show up in July. I'll have a better idea by then. I'm sure about the time I buy a new one GM will come out with a 7.0L engine with 400 hp or something like that. That's really what they need. The $8395 option for the diesel (which is really about a $9000+ option with taxes, intrest, etc.) is getting a little ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, the Duramax is awesome, but back in 05 IIRC, it was about a $5000 option over the 6.0.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
