Paint Experts?

Ok heres the deal, The clear coat on my pickup is peeling in spots mainly the hood, tops of fenders and a few other misc. spots. The paint under it is still good and looks fine when its wet. I was wondering if there was a way of just sanding the clear down on the pickup fixing a few scratches with the correct color then coming back in with a new clear coat on top instead of repainting the whole truck? Any thoughts?

Thanks B

Just wet sand the hood with a fairly fine paper, then reclear it again, then wet sand it once more with really really fine paper.

Agreed. Wet sanding with fine sand paper shouldn't destroy your basecoat. Make sure you use the right grit sandpaper, I'd say (but this is just a guess) 800 range for the first wet sand, 1000s for the last wet sand. Granted when I repainted my truck I chose the cheap way out, acyrilic enamel (3 coats of Centauri + primer) so clearcoating is still a mystery to me. If you're doing more than 1 coat the sanding is incredibly important. My truck has a lot of orange peel, due to the fact that I needed it on the road quickly and didn't make it smooth enough. Prep is everything.
