The g/f and I went to see the Kansas City Chiefs game on friday night.  Of course I have to drive no biggy right I've never had a problem in there parking lots.  We go to leave from the game and my drivers side mirror was folded in.  Than I thought to myself I bet someone screwed with my antenna.  Sure enough some SOB bent it to the hood.   So I get back to my g/f's place and try to bend it back up and snap the stupid bolt that the antenna screws on to breaks.       Sorry for the rant.

Does anyone know what the part # is for the whole antenna assembly(the part that the antenna srews into and the antenna itself) is?

Do you have to replace the anttenna or the whole cable that goes into the cab.  If its just the anttena you just unscrew it at the base.  If it's both I can explain how to do the cable.

I am replacing the whole assembly.  Some jackasses at the local carwash (wife was getting my car cleaned as a surprise while I was out of town).  Anyway, they took the antenna off to run it through their little wash thing.  When the took it off, or when they attached it back, the stripped it.  Anyway, the antenna is too tall, and hits my garage door.  So, I am going to install this 2 foot rubber antenna which will be better for me.

So, to answer the question, I need to know how to do the WHOLE thing

It's was pretty easy.  All you do is pull of the plastic cover than take the three bolts off of where the anttena goes, pull the base and cable up and out.  Under the hood reach back into the corner between the firewall and the fender you should be able to feel and barely see the cable, follow the cable to the firewall and pull on on the cable or around the gromet to get it out.  Then go into the cab and open the glove box up and push in on the right side where the stopper is and that should alow you glove box to open all the way and now you can see in behind it.  Now lay on the floor and look up from under the dash and see if you can find the cable it should be taped up in there some where.  When you get it untaped the cable should have a splice there so you can reach through the glove box and unhook it.  Now here comes the tricky part I had a hard time getting the cable back throught where it was at from the factory because it is such a tight space in that corner.  You can try to attach a piece of string or wire to the end of the cable before you pull it out( I tried it but was unsuccessful in getting it through in the right place).  If you don't attach a wire or a string to it it shouldn't be to hard to find it as you push the cable through.  Now you should be ready to take out the old one.  Pull it out and put in the new one.  When you are trying to pull the new one back through you may have to put your hand between the firewall and the black plastic/rubber cover thingy(don't know what it is just that it is up next to the firewall).  The only problem that I had was to get the new gromett back in I still have gotten it to go in right I may have to do it when it gets warmer and see if I can get it that way.  Now you should be able to make all of your connection and attach your antenna.  Hope this helps a little.

How do you pull the plastic cover off?  If we are talking about the plastic valance piece that goes across the whole front of the truck, it looks to be bolted down somewhere.    I follow everything after that part.  I can see the 3 little bolts holding the antenna mount under the plastic valance.

Silverado Man, you were correct about the whole thing.  The 4"x4" plastic came off as you said.  I got the base out and there wasn't much slack in the coax.  There is ABSOLUTELY not a lot of room to get that grommet out of the firewall.  So, I stopped there.  I looked at all the cabling, and all that stuff for familiarity.  I have a question though, can I just take the base of my NEW antenna, and cut the coax, and splice them together with the old antenna coax?  Why do I have to pull all the old cable out and run it all the way to the radio if I can just merge the 2 coax cables together, and mount my new base in the old location?  It would be a million times easier!

Thoughts?  Regardless, that information was exactly as you said, and I thank ya for the specifics.  I didn not even notice that the valance had a smaller section!  I guess I was just tired when I tried it the first time.

I don't see why you can't do that I didn't do it be because I don't have the tools to crimp them together.  So I just went ahead and did the whole thing.  It's very easy to get the grommet out how ever getting it back in is yet to be completed by me.  If you do splice them together I would make sure that the metal conections are protected so the don't rust on you.  Your welcome I'm just glad that I was able to help out. Either way you do it let me know how it goes. :(

Why the #### would someone bend your antenna.  Crap like that pisses me off.  No one has ever done anything to my truck personally, but they have poured water in my brother's '00 Silverado gas tank and egged our cars alot of times.

I got a question, does the coax of the antenna just plug in and out?  I want to install a billet shorty antenna but if it's too much work like re-wiring the antenna I think I'll just leave it stock.  Is it a plug?

Yeah I don't know why the dumbass that did it bent it.  It was probably some drunk SOB. As long as your current anttena is good you should have a problem all you need buy the the antenna and screw it into the base.
