Bouncy Suspension

Hello,

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra with 33,000 miles on it. I bought it used a couple years ago with 24,000 and since the day I got it I have noticed a very rapid wheel bounce when I hit a sharp bump. Seems to happen at low speeds as well as highway speeds. It is usually not that bad, but if it happens while going around a bend, the rear end wants to slide sideways.

I occasionally tow an enclosed trailer (3,000 pounds or so). When towing, or with any sizable load in the bed, the problem is not nearly as pronounced. The truck has the full towing package on it (8,800 pound capacity, oil cooler, tranny upgrade, etc.).

I have thought about putting some extra heavy duty shocks on it. Has anyone else had to chase this problem down? Would be interested in hearing any experiences or recommendations.

Thanks,

Jim

Howdy, lurker.......

Sounds like a shock has died..... You probably have an oil coated shock..... Get some new shocks...

Rebounding is controlled by the shocks. So when you rebound excessively your shocks are TOAST.

thanks for sharing, Jeremy.

I had a dealer look at it while it was still under warranty. They were not of much help, but I did get to look at the shocks and they had no visible signs of leakage. However, I think I am going to go ahead and swap out the shocks.

I have a friend that deals in Bilsteins, so I will go that route.
