Removed my rear tape player audio controls...

Hey all,

As the header says, I removed my tape player and rear audio control module from my '02 Tahoe. I put the GM $10 cubby in the opening from my tape player -- but I'm not aware of any plate/filler piece/cubby for the void left by the removal of the rear (second row) audio controls in the rear of the center console (just above the rear cups holder).

For the folks who didn't get the rear audio controls option, what do you have there instead? Is there a different CONSOLE REAR PIECE altogether? That is, is the whole rear section of the center console different from the one with the audio controls in it -- or is there a filler piece there?

My truck just has a shelf like cubby hole in that spot, no cover plate or anything, but no exposed holes or anything in it either. In this pic, you can pretty much see what it looks like. Why did you remove them anyway?

I removed the stuff 'cause I put in an aftermarket system (and lost control of those items, and knew I'd never use them anyway).

Thanks for that photo. Looks like you have AC vents to the sides of that space. I don't. I wonder if there's a third setup with no audio, and no AC vents. Any idea?

No problem.

Yes, I have AC vents. I would guess the Tahoes/Subs wouldn't have them because of having the vents in the headliner. At least that's where I thought they were, maybe not.

I don't know of any other set up though.

I bet there are only two ways for the back of the center console to look. The way yours was and the way Tom's is... Mine is the same as Tom's and I have a crewcab.

Hmmm.. Don't know what it will work with. Why don't you see if you can find out for sure, and we'll go from there. (I haven't considered selling it, but I will consider...)

Are you talking about a remotely mounted cassette player, that goes in the center console?

If so, it should work. I think it's as simple as plugging the cassette player into the back of the radio and then mounting the cassette player in the center console. May want to confirm that with some of the audio experts though.
