Recommended Posts

hi, i have a 2001 tahoe lt that i recently bought, im thinking the cats are breaking apart on the inside.. i was wondering what my options are? i like loud exhaust but straight exaust just gets annoying.... also i dont want it to throw any codes on the computer.. i was just wondering if there is a way to just delete the cat without messing up the computer.. i was gonna buy magnaflow cat back but now its doing this... any input would be helpfull.. i want to start on it asap but i just dont know what to buy :D ...

Anyone have the same rattle problem? I've never done anything with the newer fuel injected stuff..do high flow cats makethe computer throw codes? I got the exhaust cut off right before the muffler right now. I'm guessing that's not enough back pressure.. what size muffler should I put on there to make enough back pressure

seriously no one has any advice? i need to get exhaust on here before winter and the cats actually have rust holes in them.. what i want to do is buy some long tube headers and get black bear tune but idk if i got that kinda money... i just want a set up that my check engine light wont come on.. ive been searching on the net but its so full of worthless information..

if im gonna spend that kinda money ill just buy some longtube headers with a y pipe.. we dont have emissions where i live.. i plan on getting a black bear tune at some point in time it just needs exhaust... like NOW!! haha its irritating to drive the way it is

anyone run o2 sensor simulators or know where to find them? someone mentioned this to me...my dad works at a parts store and i get a good discount on stuff and cats are rediculously priced i could buy headers for cheaper that come with a y pipe.. my biggest fear is the check engine light coming on and it going into limp mode

On my 01, I thought the cats were rusting our but it turned out to be a loose heat shield on the exhaust manifold. If it is the cat, I would agree some long tubes would be a huge upgrade for not that much more than cats.

Be aware of several things. The "LS" engines do not run well without back pressure, lack of BP kills fuel economy and midrange torque especially with a heavy truck like yours. You still must have the two front O2 sensors for fuel management. Replacement Cat's are about $50 each a Summit not a bad price.

high flow cat through summit will do the same as not having them for the whole backpressure deal..

im sticking with longtubes to y-pipe to some sort of muffler???? to single exhaust to stock location..........and they rattle and leak terribly when cold all in all i just wanna get longtubes for the deeper sound and ill be getting a tune next spring if not sooner

and im already getting less than 10 and got nothing in mid range... its cut off after the cat... no back-pressure besides the rattly leaky cat .... haha i planned on having exhaust on it by now but when i ask ppl what to do on these newer computer controlled vehicles everyone shrugs there shoulders.. or they go all "tree hugger" on me and complain about the ozone.... forest fires generate more pollution a year than cars do... and why not where i live there is no emission visual or sniffer

Any Cat thats EPA approved will pass emissions and help back pressure but you will need a complete properly sized exhaust system.

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
    • Good question, I don't remember for sure but I believe it was the HD. I will check and get back to you.
    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling what the government, your government, data shows.   It wasn't an argument. It wasn't a suggestion. It was a statement of FACT. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. Your not entitled to your own facts. If you and I were, they wouldn't be facts.    fact /făkt/   noun Knowledge or information based on real occurrences.
