I have an 02' silverado 2wd and I can't do the torsion bar mod on my truck, so will I be able to fit the 285's with the stock height. I also wanted to know: I someday will lift the truck planning on the fabtech 3" spindle kit will I have to change the stock rims? I liked the stocks and wanted to keep them as much as possible

thanks- JD

With the Fabtech lift you'll have to change at least the wheels.  The factory wheels are 5" backspacing and with the lift you can not have more than 4.5".  I was bummed when I found out, I kinda like the upgraded factory alloy wheels.  As far as the part about 285's you can do a search but most of those listings are in regards to 4WD.  I would think doing 285/65 would fit fine yet be pushing the stock wheel which is only 7.5" wide.

I went through the FabTech thing and after much research and many a braincramp found that I could put the 3" spindle kit on my truck with 265\75\16 goodyear ATS with no problem using the stock rim.  I had this done about a year ago and haven't had any problems.  I have the 99 Sierra 2wd ext. cab.

If you look at the wheels and rims with the spindle yes they are a bit close to the tire but clearance is ok. I even had a 285 put on for a test fit and it seemed fine but just looked a little too close for comfort, allthough I've heard many who say the 285's are fine.  I'm not sure what reasoning FabTech is using in stating that you have to have rims with different backspacing, maybe just being cautious knowin that someone is going to try and put huge fat tires on the rims and totally screw things up.  Anyway my truck is no longer a low rider and looks like a real truck.  It sits similar to the regular 4wd but is very level front to back and the front wheel well seems to have a bit more height than stock.  I also had the Fabtech shocks put on too. Don't know if they compare to the Rancho, or Bilstien but they are certainly better than the stock squishy ones. :D

Thanks for the info guys. I was also talking to a co-worker of mine and he said that stock rims and bigger tires will fit with the fabtech kit. The only other question I have is I wanted to change the tires first, will I be able to fit 285's with the stock height until I can get the lift.
