Hello,

Can anyone clue me in to what might be making a 'clunk' type noise when driving at low speeds on un-level ground(up a driveway or entrance to a parking lot)?  I can also get it to happen if I drive at low speeds and 'jam' the brakes or accelerate hard.  It alsmost seems to me that it could be suspension related, like a stabilizer link or something like that making noise.  Anyone else heard this?  Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is the slip yoke problem that alot of people have had an issue with.

There is a TSB for a "clunk" on acceleration which is caused by the front yoke.  And there is another one that is related to a clunk that can be heard when the brakes are applied when backing up.  This one has to do with the rear differential.  That's all the details I have...

Did you ever figure out where the noise was coming from? I have the same noise!

Any help appreciated.

My money is on the intermediate steering shaft....do a search here and you'll find all sorts of info about the thing....

I get a very loud crunching clunk under those conditions as well, and also when shifting between D and R or between R and D. At first I thought it may be universal joints, but on listening more closely I have the sinking feeling that it's coming from the transfer case. How load is the sound you're hearing, and could it really be related to a steering shaft? Maybe I've got something completely different.
