Brake Problems

Been having some problems with the brakes lately, just deciding to re do it all to be safe since my lines are fairly rusty and the fluid just looks like dirty swamp water. new master, calipers, front hoses and a couple rigid lines.

question is, my brake warning light has been on for a while, so im thinking of replacing the piece that the two main master cylinder lines run into and then get split to the front and back, located on the frame under the radiator. it also has a wire coming from it so im thinking that is what is causing my light to be on. is it some sort of pressure valve? what is the name for this piece? and should it be easy to find?

thanks alot guys.

On an 81, I think that is just refered to as a proportioning valve. Should be an easy find, even at the local parts house. Unless that is the first of the ABS units, then you could be looking at a $$$ replacement.

thanks man, yeah proportioning or combination valve is what im told.. ive been to three auto parts stores and none of them can find me one, and the dealer dosent make them anymore. 81 dident have antilock anyways so i dont have to worry about that. guess ill have to grab one off jegs. is it common for them to fail? im guessing thers some piston inside and when its off center from a pressure difference it signals the brake warning light to go off?
