Tranny Drain W/out Dropping The Pan?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I change my own oil but havnt ever dropped a tranny pan. I have a 2003 1500HD with 65K and was planning on just opening that drain plug and refilling the amount that comes out with BG syn.

I see the drain plug is a common problem, my mech told me that too. His thought was just drain what you can get and top it back off.

The local shop just flushes with-out replacing the filter so I dont see much wrong with simply draining - refilling, then doing the procedure again in a few months. I also have an evacuator and was thinking of putting the hose down the fill line and sucking out as much as I can get, topping and doing the procedure over a few times over intervals of driving.

The NAPA gasket and filter appears about $65.

My truck tows very little and the fluid is pink and smells good.

Is its totally stupid to not put in a filter dropping the pan?

Thanks
