So I'm looking to buy a 1998 Sierra 1500 ext cab with the third door. Bed Topper. 130,000 miles. It has the 5.7L motor. It feels like the rotors are warped so I'll have to do brakes as soon as I buy it. Plus it is throwing code P0452 Evaporative Emission control System Pressure Sensor Low Input. And code P0453 Evaporative Emission control system pressure sensor high input. My daycare lady is selling the truck and it has barely been driven in the last 2 years. First thing I did was take it to the parts store and bought a new gas cap. I then hooked up the code reader and tried to clear the codes. The P0452 code would not go away. I havn't bought the truck yet. What do you think a truck like this is worth? What should I offer her in as is condition. It's a good looking truck and I really like it I just want to give her and I the most fair price. I don't mind doing the brakes and I'm not scared to take the bed off and get after the fuel pump. I've done both before on a 98 dodge ram. I'm just having a hard time coming up with a good price I feel comfortable with a friend. Or do you think I need to find another truck? Thanks guys.

Hi.. I would not ditch the truck just because of those two DTC codes .. I don't know what specifically sets them off, but it can't be too much trouble to to sort it out..

 

as for a price... it really depends on the condition of the truck, recent work done, and work that is needed right away... and your location.

 

Where I live in Saskatchewan Canada, this truck as you described it, would sell for somewhere between $3,500 and $5,000... maybe a little more if in really clean condition and did not need any work right away...

 

other things to watch on this truck with the 130,000 miles on it

- the 1998 5.7L intake manifold gasket... if it still has the original gasket you may need to have it replaced, potential leaking gasket sometime soon

- the 4L60E auto transmission... if it has not had regular servicing, it may start to show its age around this mileage

So the truck is in real good shape. I forgot to add that the Transmission has been replaced. She was hoping to get $5000 out of it but that was before I told her what all it needed. Because she is a good friend and she takes care of my child I'm thinking like $4500-$4800. You can't expect a truck that age to be perfect. The truck probably could get by for a while but I'm too anal if I know there is a problem with one of my vehicles I have to fix it right now. What are the symptoms of a leaking intake manifold gasket? I just changed one on a 94 ford like a month ago. But that's another story and Now I'm staying away from Ford once I get this truck running right. and SOLD

... when my intake manifold gasket started to leak, I could smell warm coolant when ever I pulled the truck into my garage and then walked beside it

 

... it never dripped any on to the garage floor or anywhere else

 

... the leak caused a little warm coolant to collect on top of the engine in the valley between the valve covers and it would then evaporate from there

 

.. if you are getting sensor high input or sensor low inputs, I would check the connections to the sensors as there might be a loose or broken wire or a bad ground somewhere associated with the wiring on that sensor circuit

 

Oncee you get the brakes in order and that sensor input sorted out.... then you will have a fine reliable truck on your hands...

 

these gmt400 (1988 to 1998) gm trucks are built to last ...

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the input. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this truck. A little more research on what parts are going to cost me and I'll make her an offer.
