Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipes On Radiator Are Leaking

Hi,

a couple days ago I swapped the leaking radiator on my 1997 Tahoe (5.7l) with a common aftermarket radiator (Spectra Premium CU1693). Everything worked fine except it seems that I can't get the attached transmission fluid cooler connectors tight. So it still leaks ATF on both connectors.

I understand that the ATF has a pretty high pressure on this point but I don't want to end up with overtightened connector nuts and broken threads. I refered to the original GM repair book and the torque would be normally just 26Nm (19ft-lb). According to the diagrams and what I saw from the old parts there are no O-rings in these connectors.

As it leeks rather out from the threads than from the pipe, I was wondering if I should give it a try with thread sealing tape.

Anyway, I'm wondering if somebody was running in the same issue and has a hint for me.

Thanks,

Oliver

Just for the case that somebody has the same issue, putting in one of the "better" greenish o-rings fixed the problem. It's now tight with the recommended torque.
