Gmt 800 Brake Controller

i know brake controller threads have been beaten to death around here, and ive been trying to learn as much as i can without having to ask, but most of the info im finding is for gmt 900 trucks. my understanding is there should be 4 wires under my dash somewhere. i havent looked deep enough yet but i will today, where exactly under the dash are they hidden and can someone please tell me what each color does, just incase the controller i buy isnt color matched to my truck i wanna be able to hook it up and not have something happen that shouldnt. also from the reading ive done i was under the impression there was one red power wire under the hood by the fuse panel somewhere with a ring terminal on it and a fuse that i need to connect in the fuse panel to make it work, but i just found another thread that says 2, one for the trailer brakes and one i think for 12v, can someone confirm this before i start digging around in there. truck is an 06 sierra slt. thanks

Pretty sure that all GMT800 trucks require a wiring harness that plugs into the black box under the dash (above the e-brake pedal). My 99 came with one, but maybe all didn't? A quick search found this: http://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Controller/D...Tite/20264.html . Maybe it's different for the 99 to 2002 models, which is what I had... but it looks very similar to what I remember.

With the GMT-800's, there's no wires under the dash. You need a plug adapter. You can buy them at any RV place or GM parts. They are not expensive. You wire up the colored wires to the E-brake and just plug it in. Where it plugs in is above the left foot on the firewall. It has a black cover over it.
