Service 4wd Message

Winter's been a little colder and wetter my way this year so far, and I've used 4WD a lot, but that's nothing new. Last weekend, from a cold start, I went to put it in 4L to back down the driveway, and "Service 4WD" came up on the DIC.

Now it did make noise from the transfer case, but the light on the 4L button was flashing. Tried AUTO and the same deal. Drove it for 20 minutes, tried AUTO again, and, WTH, no issues, and the Service 4WD message went away.

I figured, "glitch!" and that was it.... well same deal this morning, but this time, on the 10 minute drive to work, it would not engage at all. No codes either.

Sounds like the front axle isn't doing what it should?

I still have drivetrain warranty, but not sure this'll be covered and with Christmas coming...

Thanks for any info,

Stephen

OK, is it possible my code reader doesn't display a code from history?

I look at the DTC menu, and it read "No Codes"

I even rescanned after the Service 4WD error came up again, still "No Codes"

Perhaps I have to purchase a higher end code reader?

Thanks again,

Stephen

theres a code in history ,

call the dealer and ask, take it in in Jan

no code ,we can't help

The more I learn, the more I know I don't know...

Further research would indicate that I need a Tech Two scanner, or at least something that will read Chassis codes.

Bottom line, I need a truck with 4WD. I will take it to the dealer and take my lumps.

Thanks again,

Stephen

Yes, there was a code, that either of my code readers couldn't pick up (an Autel MS300) and my DiablSport Predator.

C0379 was shown indicating a short or open circuit condition in the front axle actuator

Dealer wanted $311 plus labour to replace. I advised the dealer it should be covered by Powertrain Warranty. Dealer tech thought that was a "no". I insisted he check as I had just looked into it. Bottom line - $0 and a happy GM Canada Customer

{{BTW, cost to me for an aftermarket actuator was $173, but the garage is too full, and the driveway is covered in snow}

Further, I understand a Hypertech programmer could have picked up the chassis code... oh well.
