2000 GMC Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 Wife just bought me a Hypertech power programmer. I did some programming today. I have some questions for those of you who have one. What's the best way to adjust the shift points? How did you figure out what was the best for your truck? Thanks
1BADZ71 Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 I can only tell you my experience with mine. I have a 2000 GMC Z71 and I have been using the Hypertech programmer for quite some time. It comes in handy for altering the speedo after gear/tire changes. I altered my shift points just a few mph over stock. The biggest improvement i saw was altering it from 2-3 and i went about 3-4mph over. But, remember when you do this, you will need to raise you rev limiter too. If you raise the shift point and not the rev limiter, you will hit the rev limiter before you shift. Just take the time to do that and test drive it a few times after doing so and you will come up with what works best for your driving style and truck. Hope i was able to help.
MarkD Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 Ditto! I have my truck shifting between 5800 rpm and 5900 rpm under WOT. I am very pleased with the improvement. I have by rev-limiter at 6200 rpm. I think my 1-2 shift is +3 or +4, and my 2-3 shift is the same. I use the 87 octane power tuning.
GREGGO Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 I don't have a Z71, but I have mine adjusted at +4, +12, +12 with the limiter at 6200. The tranny firmness is nice to.
