Help: Transmission Lags Into First; Od=dead

Hello all,

I will apologize now if my question is a double post of something. I searched for a while and couldn't find it.

It was about 2 degrees last night. When I left for work this morning truck started normal. Let it warm for about 15 minutes. Drove away slowly knowing trans does not heat with the engine. It was very laggy to get into first. Engine had to crank for it to move. 2nd and 3rd both seemed to run great but the od would not kick in. Truck ran about 1900 rmp in 3rd @ 45mph; 1150 rpm in 3rd @ 30 mph.

Can anyone please help??? The closest thing to the topic I found was this but I don't think it applies here. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...hl=transmission

Thank you!

So you have no OD at all? How warm did the engine/trans get? 4th gear and tcc is inhibited until

109* trans temp on most transmission programs. Mine takes a good long while, at that temp, to

get into 4th with tcc lockup. Trans shifts can be delayed as well.

Correct, OD did not engage for roughly a 25-30 minute car ride. I do not have a trans temp meter so I don't know the temp. First gear felt like it was slipping from a dead stop. Trans fluid is mostly pink still with slight brown residue. Not enough to really make me think I burnt a seal or anything.

The od thing makes sense because of the cold. But the first gear lag doesn't seem correct.

Thanks for actually responding.

No ses light?

Might have a 2-4 servo or band issue but I'm still betting on the cold causing the trans temp to not come up fully.

Seems like it should have during that long of a drive. If it's hurt internally, it really isn't going to hurt it any worse

to try and drive it back home because if it has to come apart, it has to come apart. If it won't take 4th, manually

select 3rd though, just in case, to save from too much damage.

No, no lights came on. I have never had a problem with it in the 77,000 miles on it. Weird that it worked perfectly fine last night and then this morning it didn't. I will try and drive it after work today and re-post with any updates on it.
