ac unit lights

Has anyone else had lights go out inside the AC Control Unit?  For me, it is the incoming fresh air (bottom left) and the AC on (third from left) buttons.  It aggravates me to see them dim with the orange indicator on next to them.  

 

Is this a common problem?

I had these two backlights fail on my HVAC cluster as well.

 

I think I had around 1200 or 1300 hours on the truck when they failed.  Both failed within a week of each other.

 

I understand your aggravation - I drive a lot at night and it really bugged me.  I've had many vehicles with many more hours and miles than this truck and not had an instrument cluster back-light fail - even on the really crappy ones.

 

I had my cluster replaced when I had some other warranty work done on the truck.

 

If you are out of warranty or otherwise interested in fixing this yourself, you'll need to pull the HVAC cluster, disassemble it, and replace the LEDs that act as back lights.

 

Removing the cluster is pretty easy - no tools required. The difficulty level of replacing the LEDs will depend on your skill level with a soldering iron.

 

I believe I've read about others replacing these LEDs themselves, but can't seem to find a relevant post here or at Pickuptruck.Com.  I do remember that it was suggested that you replace ALL the LEDs instead of just the failed ones so that the brightness level of the buttons in the cluster remains constant.
