1999 Sierra Headlight Going Out

I have a 1999 GMC SIERRA EXT CAB SLE and i am having some serious headlight issues. There are times when i am out driving and i stop to get gas or if my truck has been running a lot that when i turn my truck back on my lights do not come on with it. It doesnt matter if I turn the light switch on or off, if i flip the high beam switch or anything, nothing happens. The Blue High Beam Light on the Dash Panel lights up and stays on the entire time this is happening, but if i let my truck sit for a little while and the go to turn it on again, most of the time, the lights come back on. Is this a common problem and is their anything i can do about this
