Toes2008 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 So the lift on the 08 looks like its on hold the wife's expecting!! But I do have some ?'s about lifting an 86 Wrangler, if I choose to go with a 6" or 8" they say I will need a transfer case lowering kit. How do they do this without lowering the tail of the trans and running the engine sloped back? Or is that the way they want it. This is going to be my spring project cause its under 2' of snow right now but hope to have all the new pannels and lift by then.
Toes2008 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 I guess nobody has ever lifted an old 4x4 on here any help would be appreciated.
ruggedlife Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 i've done tons. with a 6 or 8 you're going to need a slip yolk eliminator and probably to stretch the rear to get the driveline angle as best as possible. doing a transfercase drop will slope the engine back its just the way of the game. you can achieve the same effect but doing a small body lift and a motor mount lift to set the angle the right way. 6 or 8 is pretty big on a wrangler... most people will do a 4, every now and then you see a 4 suspension with a 3 body lift... if you do that combination you'll need to fab up some brackets to be able to shift the 4wd shifter, and if it's a manual you'll probably need to trim the floor and extend the shifter
Toes2008 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 ok I will deffinatly give that some thought and thanks for the info
97reddodge Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Im running 5 in suspension just with a t-case drop got the hole kit at rough country for around 520 i just put on a 1.25 body lift on it too looks big lol but if you do 6 or more you will need the sye and drive shaft or cut you perches and rotate the axle up with a t-case drop and maybe a motor mount lift to get by alittle cheaper
