2nd To 3rd Gear Delayed Shift...

I posed this over in the General Tech section, but thought I'd post here, too.

 

I've just noticed over the past couple days that my truck is having what feels like a delayed shift from 2nd to 3rd. 1st to 2nd is smooth and normal. 3rd to 4th is normal.

 

2nd to 3rd - RPM's will jump from 2500 to 3500 and it feels like there's a lag or delay. The shift otherwise is smooth. NO clunking, NO slipping out of any gear. Just a lag on the 2 to3 upshift. NO issues on downshifts.

 

The last time I checked it, the fluid level was good and the fluid itself looked good. I am overdue for a fluid and filter change, but that's about it.

 

I'm going to check the basics, but wanted to see of anyone has had a similar problem. Search hasn't turned up too much info.

what gearing do you have? my 04 does not go above 2k rpms on any shift ever...hell it dosen't hit 2k going 70 mph on the interstate

3.73's with 33" tires.

 

It's kinda weird – today there's no lag happening. The trans is shifting at 2000 RPM.

285/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs - the numbers actually land at about 32.5". Prior to that, I was running BFG A/T KO's in the same size, since I bought the truck back in 2005.

 

I've never had any issues, trans temps have been fine and the trans fluid looks good.

 

I'm thinking about draining the pan and refilling with fresh fluid, then run it for a week or two. Then pull the pan and do a filter change and fresh fluid again, just to freshen everything up.
