Denali Front Driveshaft Question

Recommended Posts

So I put a 6in lift on my Denali back in September and I am finally getting around to getting the front driveshaft redone. After reading through the post, it seems simple to just take it in and have it done. Ive taken it to two shops and they have told me that since the yoke is a slip yoke, they cannot make it dual cardan. I finally found a shop that said I need to go to 4wheels parts and have a slip yoke eliminator kit installed on my transfer case then they can make me a new driveshaft....Is this correct or am I not talking to the correct guys?? Thanks! Scott

Scott,

I´m getting the ProComp 6" lift installed this week...actually I called the shop today, it´s installed and the drive shaft was being mounted while I was on the phone. Don´t know exactly the partnumber but my driveshaft was ordered together with the lift kit directly from ProComp. There was no talk about anything like a slip yoke or something...Call ProComp maybe they can help. Has the shop that wants to install your driveshaft some experience in changing that one on a GMT900 Denali???

Im not sure how familiar this shop is with the GMT900 platform but they are one of this biggest and most reputable shops in Austin but theres only four drivetrain shops here and Ive talked to 3 of them already....Ill call procomp and see what they say. How much did the driveshaft cost you if you dont mind me asking?

I contacted Pro Comp and spoke to a guy named Craig, He wasnt too keen on the idea of lifting a Denali but spoke about the front driveshaft replacement (p#51246) they have for the 4x4's. He wasnt sure if the driveshafts were identical but since I already did the lift he referred me to Powertrain Industries based out of Cali (1-800-798-4585.) I spoke with a guy named Jeff and he recommended Part#3194-9824 for about 380+shipping. Its on order, We'll see what happens, Ill let yall know if it works and maybe help out a few future mile high Denali drivers :) lol

My truck is now 6" higher...driveshaft installed and the guys who does it on a daily bases say no probs so far...will get it this weekend. Sorry, I live in Germany and payed in Euro so can´t honestly say how much it is in US $ but the price you mentioned seems right for what I payed here...don´t forget, I have to pay what you guys call a chicken tax for every piec that comes outside the EU  and in addition the local state tax... :D

Next week getting my LEER 700 so will be posting some pics of her as soon as she´s completely done...guys at the shop say she looks gorgeous now with the lift... :uhoh:

Will post pics after I have the LEER 700 toneau cover on her...otherwise she´s not complete...might take till next weekend...but the pics are coming, promised :uhoh:

Ended up that the driveshaft they recommended was too long. I called up Powertrain Industries and they sent me the correct shaft Part# 3194-9825 which is 35 1/4". Ive been driving with it for about a week and a half now and it works great! no more chattering
