2000 Silverado Rh Brake Light Inop

Hello Gents,

My 2000 Silverado ECSB 4x4 has an issue with the right rear brake light. It does not illuminate when I step on the brake pedal. If the running lights are on, and I step on the brakes, the brake light still does not come on, but the running light goes out too. The running light is a little dimmer than the left one also.I checked all 6 bulb bases on the left and right rear light assemblies and replaced the stop lamp just in case. No luck. The bases look good (no corrosion)

I'm thinking it's a corroded ground, where's the best place to start looking?

You have high resistance in one of your circuits--that's causing the dim light.

I'd start by replacing the actual socket for the right rear brake bulb.

Sounds like a ground issue and the running light is finding ground through the brake light. Take a look behind the bumper you will find the Rear Lamp Junction box. The tail lights and trailer wires all get connected here. Most likely you have on corrosion in one fo the connectors. You should be able unplug them and clean them up.
