Has anyone done much towing using a suburban with the 5.3 / 6 spd /3.08 rear end? I just recently purchased a 2010 in hopes that my family and I would be able to do some camping in a midsize RV (25ft / 4250 lbs empty). Prior to purchase I was under the impression it would tow approx 8K lbs. Have since learned it isn't 'properly equipped'. Just curious if anyone has used this set up for towing and if so, how is it? Thanks.

Same setup as My silverado and have towed about 2500 miles out of 12000 so far.2010 half ton. Towed one car trailer loaded with a mid 60's muscle car through PA and had no problems. Did fine for what it is

Do you have the HD cooling package?

No, just the HD trailering package (the hitch basically). I plan on putting a transmission cooler on it though in hopes that will help. Maybe even an oil cooler.

Transmission cooler will help a lot. Engine oil cooler probably won't help much. Mine doesn't have engine oil cooling--it was added with the 6-speeds. I have never had an issue with engine temps, and my total combined weight is ~13,000 lbs. I would not tow this kind of weight without an auxiliary transmission cooler.

According to the owner's manual my max combined weight is 11K w/ the 3.08. I would like to stay around that, but will more than likely exceed it a little at times. Hopefully the tranny cooler will help out in the event I do. They are fairly inexpensive to have installed. Thanks for your help.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
