Duramax Problems

Hey guys, been a while since I've been online, I traded my vortec max for a duramax, love the truck...but problem is im going through coolant!

It is a 2005 2500HD Duramax

symptoms: a liter a week, a LOT of pressure in the resevoir, sometimes when cold engine only heats to 80 degrees Celcius and blows cold air and takes about 10minutes to heat up, almost as if the system is air locked!

There's a new water pump and 2 thermostats in the truck, i didnt do the repairs, the previous owner did, is it possible they installed the wrong thermo's?

I'm looking for any possible problems, i've accepted the fact that it's probably the head gaskets but am just checking with the pro's!

Also the truck has a 6" lift and i need new shocks badly! Whats the best way to go? I dont want to spend a fortune, considering Skyjacker 8000Hydros

Thanks guys

Sounds like head gaskets is a likely possibility. I would take it to have the coolant checked for combustion gasses. I think Napa also sells the kit.

Killerbee, what is this induction overhaul kit your talking about?

This is my first diesel, and the truck is as I bought it right now, it's pretty ballsy for stock, i stuck a programmer on it and didnt find a major difference like my friends diesels so im assuming theres already a programmer on it, and i've got no idea what has been done preformance wise

Any info greatly appreciate!

What about EGR cooler? I know the ford is famous for problems, should i put the delete kit on the truck while I have it stripped down? and is there a chance the egr cooler is giving me problems? Are there any other modifiacations I should do when i strip the engine down? Of course all on a budget and reasonable modifications that eliminate problems and/or give noticable power/econo increases

Thanks again guys

My truck rarely gets over that temp when it is cold outside unless I am towing or on a long haul. If temps do go above that they drop right back down as soon as I let off the accelerator. I run a factory grill cover over mine in the winter just to keep the temps up so the truck can be more efficient.

However, I have never lost any coolant...

i see yore a good ole newfie boy...what part of the island do you haunt?

losing coolant is the problem here, my fleet runners are still taking 20 minutes to warm up.... sunday, it took 50kms on the highway to get lots of heat.....

most guys dont like the dealers, but hickmans is a good shop with a very good(perhaps the best around) diesel tech....

Google it. If you have an LLY, it will be the single biggest improvement you will ever make. Basically it is a fix for a factory goof, that really limits all performance characteristics, and creates havoc with turbo failures and head gasket failures.
