I have heard that some guys contract to haul camper trailers and other cargo with their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks for a profit. I am interested in doing this on the side, but I do not know how to break into it. I searched on the internet for information, but all of the cargo was meant for semi-truck/tractor trailers and could not be pulled by a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. Does anyone have any experience with this or any idea of how to go about obtaining contracts to haul trailers or other goods? thanks.

I looked at that site and there are somethings I don't understand and some I don't like. Once I pay off the rig I'm in I thought about using it to pull multiple campers so I looked into this a little. 1 thing I was wondering is how much is the fsc and as the price goes up how much is it effected. 2. Why do you have to log your deadhead miles being your in a pickup, just pull the company stickers off and drive. 3. If your doing the rv thing are you responsible for the fuel? I see it says $1.00 per mile including the fsc that's kind of messed up if your paying for fuel in something that's not yours. I do not like how they charge you $10-30 just to pull a trailer out for you. Say you pull 3 trailers a week, that's $360 a month your paying them! That's half a truck payment. That's just my .02

The moment you haul something for a fee you become a commercial transporter, and state and/or DOT (interstate) regs apply. Who would hire a transporter who isn't registered and insured as such?

When your pulling freight fed reg says you have to have all your dot info on the side. I was talking about when your empty/not pulling anything. When I use my rig for personal use I don't log my movement.

grey area. my crew must log their hours as long as they are working, no matter the vehicle for DOT. the hours you spend driving to work in this situation sill count against your 70 hours of drive time and you still must get your 10 hour resets in-between driving for 14 max. an incomplete log book will get you a pretty good fine, and you must have the previous 7 days available.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
