New Truck Hesitation

First, thank you for taking the time to contribute to this forum.

 

I have a new 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 crew cab with the 5.3 and the 6 speed. I have only had it about a month and it now has about 4,000 miles. My problem, which has always been there is that there seems to be a hesitation sometimes when I try to accelerate. It is very noticable between 25-30 mph and at higher speeds also. it feels like it should just keep accelerating, but it stumbles a little, then when I give more throttle, it shifts down.

With work I have a hard time getting to the dealer but it is looking like I am going to have to take a day off to get it looked at. I am also concerned that since the check engine light is not illuminated that they will tell me that nothing is wrong.

Most likely what your feeling is the GM nanny's. It's called torque management. What gears did you end up with? A custom tune could fix that but I'd go to the dealership first to make sure there's nothing wrong. But I'm betting they're going to tell you, it's normal.

 

Sounds like the transmission could be having a hard time deciding what gear it wants and thats the lag your feeling.

It has the 3.42 gears, which I am happy with, other than the hesitation.

I was curious if you had the 3.08's and yes, the 3.42's are the better choice in my opinion.

To add, it seems exagerated if the AC is on.

Change where you get gas and if you're not already using Tier1, you should be.

You know I recently posted something similar, but I have a BB tune in my truck, even with all TM removed, stomping it from a dead stop there still seems to be very minute "lag" as in from 0-35mph, but when it hit 35mph it rockets untill 50-55mph then shifts. but it still is a big paper weight rollin down the road lol
