Upper Ball Joints

Hi all. I have a 2001 1500 5.3 Z71 4WD pu. 210,000 miles. Needs new upper front ball joints. The guy at the alignment shop tells me that you have to replace the entire upper A arms. He says that you cannot remove the old ones and replace just the ball joint. Any advice?

I think hes wrong, Ive changed tons of ball joints on the GMT 800 style trucks. Im pretty sure that the GMT 900 trucks are the ones that you need to change the entire asembely.

Thanks, Thats what I thought too. I'll keep checking aand post the results.

If you search NAPA online they list a ball joint, and they also list the upper control arm with the ball joint.

 

I believe you can replace just the ball joint on the 800's
